    Okay, and this is my song here made for my girlfriend. Made from start to finish throughout the afternoon today (I started right after I replied to @wagtunes , hehe). The instrumental was made in Auxy, and the vocals were recorded and processed in Cubasis 3. The final track was mastered in Cubasis 3 too. Enjoy.

    Nice one mate, it bumps along nicely.

    One suggestion: it might be nice to have a few more notes in the vocal melody IMO, but otherwise it's a banger!

    Excellent, another banger! I enjoy the energy in this song, how it builds and releases too. Great lyrics too, I found this one easy to know what you're singing without seeing the lyrics. Very nice track and amazing you made it in one day too

    This is a music track that I improvised on two MIDI keyboards connected to Bitwig Studio on a desktop PC. There the MIDI was routed to Heritage Cello for the cello; Solo for the viola, clarinet, and flute; Noire for the piano; and Repro-5 and Continua for the background instruments.

    After bringing the audio recording into Vegas Pro, I applied the Lurssen Mastering Console plug-in to the audio mix.

    It's titled The Old House.

    The solo orchestral instruments are beautiful. Lovely flowing piece.

    Thanks mate. :) A good suggestion indeed. We'll see what manner of melody I construct for the next song, but I'm definitely feeling DnB today. Whether or not I get to producing today is a different matter since today is pretty jam-packed full of errands and piano practice, lol.

    Thank you so much, mate. :) Yeah, when it comes to processing a single vocal line, I can make the words audible and clear. But for "Sunshine", I tried a few different methods of trying to get the harmonious vocoded vocals to sound clear enough, but unfortunately failed at that task. At least that one sounds good and grooves along nicely, even if you can't understand the lyrics without a lyrics sheet. 😂

    Nice one — the tune is very catchy and the mix is clean, everything sits exactly where it should. The only thing I could see elevating it even more would be a bit more variation in the vocals to keep things moving and add some extra character. Still, good track overall!

    Thanks mate. :) Yeah, Richard also suggested a bit more variety in the vocal melody. So I will consider this for the next song.

    My entry for the month, lyrics in the spoiler:

    I wanted the best for you
    I know you felt confused
    There were some things I never knew
    When I walked in your shoes

    The shadow right beside you
    That’s eating you away
    The doubt that lives inside you
    That’s growing by the day

    A spinning top
    Crashing round
    Just chaos and a fractured sound

    You never stop
    You never breathe
    The shadow won’t let you believe

    I always hoped that you'd adjust
    Without feeling so bruised
    I never wanted to be just
    The bearer of bad news

    The shadow right beside you
    That’s eating you away
    The doubt that lives inside you
    That’s growing by the day

    A spinning top
    Crashing round
    Just chaos and a fractured sound

    You never stop
    You never breathe
    The shadow won’t let you believe

    The main guitar riff is really cool and instantly catchy and I love the epic chorus and the big wash of sound. The mix is clear and balanced, top notch production.

    My entry for this month:

    It starts off great with a cool intro and I love the percussion in the second half. It has an ominous brooding tone throughout which doesn't resolve and leaves you feeling even more uneasy. Which is a compliment! good stuff

    Would be the perfect soundtrack to a dark psychological thriller.

    (Unashamedly copy/pasted from your main post for this track!)

    Okay, I'll give this a go. This is one of my more recent tracks.

    Please feel free to tear it to shreds. It's the only way I'm going to improve as a writer and a mix engineer.

    Off to listen to your tunes. This should be fun.

    Has a touch of the show tune about it; I can imagine this in a musical. I also echo what some of the others have said.

    The piano sounds a tad mechanical and the strings would sound more alive with some modulation. Most libraries — at least all the ones I use — use cc1 and 11 for timbre and level changes which usually crossagdes the samples as you change the level which add a ton of realism.

    The song itself is cool, with a memorable melody.

    I can imagine this in a beach Café by the pool on a scorching afternoon in the south of Spain! I also imagined the song with crowd noise on the risers to add to the party atmosphere!

    The vocoder is nice and clear and the mix is suitably punchy!

    Another trademark JWM banger! You’re definitley on a roll! Hats off :-)

    Thanks so much, my friend. :) I wish the weather was scorching outside. Alas, it's around -10ºC (15ºF) currently where I live. Too cold, lol. Yeah, I'm taking a short break from making music to focus on short story writing. Not sure exactly what to write about, but I always wanted to write within the Crime genre, inspired by the likes of the "Sin City" series of gritty graphic novels. So we'll see how that goes.

    This is a great sounding song that would fit in perfectly with the 80s style Electro Romantic music 👍

    This is ultra relaxing, also very convincing for keyboard playing the Cello, the Piano is hauntingly beautiful. There is a band called Jade Warrior that has very similar music to this, very tranquil and well worth stopping everything to listen to The Old House. Excellent 👌

    Thank you! Kind words.

    I made the music which JanKun then wrote his vocals to. He also wrote the coda strings which I think wind the song down really nicely.

    I love what he added — he elevated the track way beyond what I managed and I really love his vocal melody and performance.

    Battleground does look cool. I’m not much a fan of generated music though — that’s the one thing stopping me from buying it so far, but I’m tempted to get it for the Mac just for the Noir module. I’d have jumped at it if it had Rosetta style sequencers in it instead of only having the generated MIDI. I do get that that’s the whole point in it — but I don’t really want to make techno in 60 seconds :-)

    Logic Pro (or BAM) + Noir, Phasemaker and Troublemaker is close enough to be honest. All I’d be missing is the instant techno rumble which I can personally live without as I’m not really in to techno. And rumbles are really easy to make in a DAW anyway. Bram loves his DAWless — but I like making music in a DAW! :lol:

    But really all I want is Noir for the Mac. I’d buy the full version of Noir again in a heartbeat if it was available for Mac too.

    Oh man, I called it Battleground. Battlestation, actually, lol. Bloody hell, I hate when I get names mixed up. 😂

    Anyways, I love making music in a DAW as well as outside of a DAW. Most times, I do like being in control of what I create, but sometimes I just want to just "go to town" and do a live jam, even if it does end up going into Cubasis (whether as stems or as the final unmastered product).

    Right now however, I'm pursuing making music for videogames within Korg Gadget 3. So far, I'm in my "learning and absorption" phase and haven't created anything in the past day. Sometimes it feels good to slow down, stop, learn and grow knowledge versus churning out a ton of music at once. It's still a form of being productive in a sense.

  • @richardyot
    As usual, you have excellent guitar work that rings and then soars throughout the song. Darker than previous ones as it pushes hard against the chaos. The vocal refrains especially reflect that hard push. Reminds me of Neil Young’s Helpless in that it paints a picture that’s dark, but not inescapably so.

    @unlink
    A moody opening that evolves with eerie variations of a simple repeating theme. Unsettling and beautiful at the same time, which is quite an accomplishment. That’s a rare and oh-so difficult-to-achieve combination.

    @wagtunes
    Epic-scale beginning that ironically sets up a single voice seemingly lost in the wilderness. Combines both comic and subtle sentimental elements with superb orchestral flourishes. Echoes of the Beatles, both with the background orchestration and light comedic tone. It all fits together very well.

    @jwmmakerofmusic
    I’m not usually a fan of dance or EDM songs, but this one is so good, it reaches out far beyond any musical genres. The tune itself is catchy, but it’s the powerful and heartfelt lyrics that bind it together into a tidy package. A sweet gift for a lucky girlfriend.

    @klownshed
    Dark and dangerous. Strong vocals and lyrics make this into an intriguing mini-movie that’s yearning to be expanded into a big-budget blockbuster. Love the ethereal orchestration that suggests, then misleads, then resolves before suggesting again. Plus, it’s laced throughout with subtle musical treats. Wow!

    @pbelgium
    Holy cow! Yes, this thing is plugged in. Hendrix goes all Christmasy on us. From Santa’s sled to Santa’s shred, this one is on fire. Very impressive. And a worthy edition to the holiday.

    Thank you so much, my friend. :) I won't lie - I don't necessarily consider "One True Love" my favourite (I love "Mi Amor" more), but then again it's what my lady thinks that counts. She loves it a lot.

    Some fantastic tracks this month. I couldn’t participate unfortunately but I hope I will have something for January 26

    @unlink A terribly frightening song that can have been written by Akira Yamaoka. It is truly great, I love this composer and the ambience he is able to create and your track gave me the same feeling. Very good

    @richardyot Beautiful guitar that immediately reminded me of Suede (the group) and in a way, this could have been part of the more mature new album they have recently released. Very well recorded with a great and well balanced stereo mix.

    @DavidEnglish This sounds a bit like one of the most famous classical song by Jules Massenet named “la meditation de Thais”. Not the same pitch and less virtuosity but a similar feeling to my taste. Beautiful

    @wagtunes Nice orchestration, recorded a bit too loud in my opinion (had to decrease my volume). Overall a good track with repetitive words that are part of the concept

    @jwmmakerofmusic You brought me back to the 2000´s with this track that could have been a hit in these time.

    @klownshed Wow this is great and very original. I can hear some RH influences but it is also something of your own and your collab definitely works well. Hard for me to publish anything that can be that good…

    @pbelgium Jimi H. Is back with this track ;o9 I think you had to just let the flow go out and express what you have inside. Very well played anyway

  • Thanks for your kind words @cuscolima @DavidEnglish.

  • Thanks for posting those reviews @cuscolima! B)

  • Gracias @cuscolima for the compliment. ❤️ I dated myself with that song it seems. 😂 I'm 41 and was a teen back in those days.
