Ableton Link Offset question OTG mode

edited December 2025 in Loopy Pro

Hello,

I got an ICON PRO AUDIO 32Ci audio interface with the OTG function that allows me to connect it to an iPad and a Mac at the same time.

With Ableton Link, I get a little lag while playing the metronome on Ableton Live and Loopy Pro at the same time.

Using AUM alone, I can adjust the Ableton Link offset by -16.1 and get AUM and Ableton Live metronomes at the exact same time.

As I don't find a way to adjust Ableton Link offset in Loopy Pro I used AUM as a host,
with Loopy Pro synchronization set to Host Sync, and AUM offset to 0ms
But Loopy Pro is a little late.
Changing the offset doesn't seem to change anything.
I tried using my iPad Pro directly connected with a Thunderbolt cable to my MacBook Pro Max M1 and got a similar result.
What am I missing?

  • @cellicello : what you have circled there is midi clock sync adjustment. It doesn’t affect host sync—which is always 0 offset.

When slaving to MIDI clock, you can have an adjustment. Since you aren’t slaving to a midi clock sync, you should turn that option off.

With midi clock and ableton link turned off in loopy pro and Host Sync On, Loopy Pro’s and AUM’s metronome should be locked. is that not the case?

Thank you for your quick reply.
I don't know how to set the MIDI clock to off, but with Ableton Link turned off in Loopy Pro and Host Sync On, Loopy Pro was locked to AUM and Ableton Live. :)

What MIDI Clock Sources is used for?
Would it possible to adjust the offset of Link in Loopy Pro so I don't need to use AUM?

  • @cellicello : You turn midi clock off and on by tapping on the sources and destinations to enable/disable them. MIDI Clock is another way of synching devices that pre-dates Ableton Link. You can find out more about it by doing a web search.

In your most recent screenshot, you have a MIDI Clock Destination set. If you aren't intending to send midi clock, you should turn that destination off by tapping on it.

We will look into adding an offset for Ableton Link.

I just realized that the metronome from Ableton Live is a little off when recorded in Loopy Pro when connected to my ICON Pro Audio 32Ci with the OTG port.
    How to fix it?

The Apollo Twin setup with TX-6 send/return provides the best audio routing with low latency to my iPad,
but Loopy Pro still lags about 1ms behind AUM in sync timing.
offset doesn't seem to make any changes, so I guess 1ms is fine.

  • I made a video explaining how to set the ICON 32Ci with the OTG function with loopy Pro

Good idea! Not all setups play with equal latency on each LINKed device.
