Koala Update! 1.4145 - Get To Da Chopper

Koala just updated with a bunch of fixes and added a new tool to the Samurai pack called Chopper!

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/koala-sampler/id1449584007

Chopper is found at the bottom of Tools (convert to chopper)

One sample is converted, you can set non destructive chops to a single sample!

Playback is handled by tapping the chops shown on screen (like testing the og lazy chopping popup)

The 'Convert to Chopper' is now changed to 'Convert to Sample' in the Tools menu, to remove any chopper changes and revert to the original sample

Haven't testted with a midi controller yet, so no idea how that works, but I'm sure all explained elsewhere

Have fun!

Using the onscreen keyboard on the sequence page, different notes trigger different slices.

I assume the same will be true with a midi controller

    Sounds like it

Now I'm thinking about setting up two 4x4 pads (yeah, could be done off one thru multiple methods... I'm thinking about quicker execution)

One to select the sample, one for playing the chops

This effectively gives you 16 chop sets

    Oh... Per page

One koala template. 64 samples individually chppped

And if you're chopping on beat, the automation will save TONS of time for chopping and auditioning backlog collections

While not the additions I desire, they quickly become necessitirs

Good on em for knowing me better than me!

I like to use velocity to select the slice, this way it’s possible to play all the slices at different pitches and it also makes programming sequences a bit more flexible.

    Ooo intriguing af

Saw the velocity option but didn't mess with ir. Only ran a quick Note test

So, in velocity, each note plays the same chop at a different note, but different velocities change the chop that's played?

    Yepp!
It's super handy when chopping up samples and sequencing/triggering the slices at different pitches etc.

The 'piano keyboard' in Koala also sends note velocity so it's a quite handy way to play when using 'sensible' amount of slices :)

Sensible in the sense that there's limited vertical space on the keyboard for somewhat accurate triggering but this is not an issue when programming patterns in the piano-roll and using g the 'vel' tool on the notes to select the 'slice per note'.

  • This is great, getting closer to Simpler functionality!

Any ideas how to add an envelope to the chops? The attack/release options don’t seem to be available in chopper mode.

  • Ok, so I’ve got a chopped sample on pad 1, and another on pad 2 - riffer is playing slices by note on pad 1, and if I touch pad 2, it will switch to playing that, but how do I automate that change?

  • yeah this is not something i thought i wanted. but now that it is there. i am using it like crazy. so cool

  • It's going to make sampling my Novation Peak more convenient!

  • trying to wrap my brain around last couple posts. koala is awesome.

i wish the performance effects could be assigned to individual busses. that’d be sick. i love those but it would be nice to leave out the drums and such sonetimes

  • This is a great update. I’m really chuffed that we can finally extract the pattern from our slices. It’s going to be really useful for slicing breaks

You could run it in aum and route tracks to instances of Koala FX.

  • Oh wow, it has “extract pattern” to give you a sequence to play back the sample in time and that you can then mess with for variations. That’s Fruity Slicer and BM3 territory right there. 😎

  • This is so good. Happy holidays!

  • Thank you Elf Audio!
