Battery Issues on the New iPad Air 2

Anyone having problems with battery life on the Air 2? Seems to drain quickly, even when not using it.

Comments

  • No issues here on Air 2... have you recently updated to 8.1.1? Did the battery issues start after that?

When I updated my previous iPad from 7.1.1 to 7.1.2 I had the exact same issue, battery started draining very quickly for no reason. I did a full backup and restore, which cleared the issue up.

Before trying that, you might want to try disabling location services, background app refresh and mail push in settings, as well as closing any apps that multitask in the background (Skype, Facebook, etc.) and then doing a device reboot and see if that helps at all.

  • I've got the latest iOS. How do you turn off background app refresh? I didn't know you could turn that off.

  • No problems here either, but I lower the brightness quite a bit. Turning off Bluetooth also helps.

  • @mkell424 you can disable background app refresh from within the setting app, under the General tab.

  • I had battery issues with my Air 2 for the first few days I had it. Then I remembered to shut off all the functions (like background app refresh and Notification Center) that suck battery life out of the iPad. Now it works fine.

  • Cool thanks guys. I had all of that stuff turned on. :)

It has noticeable (but not too much) less battery life than my Mini Retina but as always:battery life will increase a little if you use it for a while.I would wait a month before really judging the battery life.

i also switched off EVERYTHING in he settings that wants to phone home like ET's damn big brother, turned off Auto brightness and all that other known battery save tips you can find on many iOS websites.

ah yeah and avoid fancy widgets :)

  • Until I turned off ALL background refresh it was terrible. Now I get 12-16 hours per charge.

  • 12-16?Really?Do you feed it with something more demanding than text files? ;-)

  • It's now working. It must have been that background refresh because I always have a bunch of apps, mail and Safari running in the background. I rarely go into multitasking mode and close things down. I just use Battery Doctor to free up the memory (which is now 2GB)!

Battery doctor can free up memory?Which one? There are some more with similar names floating arround...

I thougt only cMemory can do this but it seems that it's pulled frome the app store. Can't even find it in my purchase list anymore (probably it wouldn't work on ios8 anyway...)

edit:okay it seems the Battery doctor HD can do it.Or maybe not,i'm freeing up 700MB of memory but as soon as i close the app,the free up memory is gone again (only safari open). Not sure if the app is really helpful here or if i should trust the chinese stuff at all ;-)

  • Really? According to Battery Doctor the memory is filled with just Safari open?

  • edited November 2014

where can i see that in BD?It just shows me the overall memory usage, same as other system apps do.

But yes, currently only safari is open with arround 8-10 tabs. That doesn't mean much though cause iOS is designed for managing the ram itself (most of the time it works good)and takes it when needed.I was just wondering about the difference in our results.
