Georgia on my mind piano improv (salamander & pianoteq)
Every New year, on January 1st, it is known as public domain day in the US. It’s the day when a lot of old songs enter into public domain. This year the great song ‘Georgia on my mind’ was one of them. I decided to record it tonight on the spur of the moment, to get back in the mood of recording again.
Recorded in MidiTapeRecorder. The piano sound used here is actually two - I combined the accurate salamander piano soundfont and a pianoteq felt piano patch, in mono, to give it more full bottom. I didnt really mix it or add anything except a little saturation in mixbox. Now that im back on an ipad 5th gen i cant add as many plugins like i could on my 9th gen.
I know this is messy playing, but i just wanted to make something again.
Happy New year everyone!

Nice rendition. Always loved this song. Best to you for the New Year.
This is a wonderful tribute @Dav .
My curiosity also led me to hear awesome banjo picking and Ms. Tharpe singing playing blues on guitar.
Thanks for reminding us of our rich history!
Happy New Year to you too
Lovely playing and sound @Dav, thanks for sharing.
Belated Happy New Year to you and yours!
Nice 🙏
It's always nice hear a soloist that can cover the bass line, the chords and melody while sitting in the relaxed pocket of a groove.
Years of practice required and few short cuts to master that ability.
And then all those personal arrangement touches that make a soloist have a unique voice.
I'm glad you felt the urge to create a recording and even more impressed that you share your results even if you might want more takes... We are generally our most severe critics. I wish I had more discipline to play alone like this without needing hours to coordinate the hands and see the hand shapes to keep the melody note on top.
The most useful piano and guitar tips I absorbed intellectually this past year is the power of shell voicings. Just the root, 3rd and a color tone like a 7th, 6th or 9th. 3 note spread out. If there's a bass player then swap that root for a 5th or just play 3rd and 7th.
To avoid the jazz piano sound just avoid Major 7ths. Anyway... I get the advice but don't do the work required. Go figure... There are those that play and those that support that play with the required work to build a Large Music Model in their brain.
Thank ou kindly for listening, @wagtunes , @Blipsford_Baubie , @pbelgium , @GeoTony , @McD ! Its a cool song still. I was driving through the state of Georgia a while back and there was sign that said this is the official song of the state.
McD, i follow you. Yep, lately ive been trying to move away from always playing like the old jazz sound. I really like adding 6th in chords, really make things sound prettier.
