Meteor has step input
Thanks @BiancaNeve that's a new one on me. No updates for 18 months and AU$30. I'm not interested in its audio capabilites, but does its midi editing have more to recommend it besides step-input? Nice piano-roll?
Plus another $30 IAP for midi editing! I'd pay for it if it was good.
Tbh I wouldn't buy it now. The piano roll is ok but dated compared to gadget auxy etc.
It has IAA effects but not instruments. I can't see it getting updated for AU either. So unless they surprise me it's probably not one to invest in at this stage of the game.
Regarding the syncing thing, just do a two bar count in for gadget (settings menu) with metronome and switch to your chord app and....have good timing? What happens to me is if the first note/chord is directly in beat one, you will not hear it, BUT THE MIDI WILL STILL BE RECORDED. My guess is this holds true for most apps in this situation where there is no direct sync but you are recording midi in and want to start on beat one. It happens in Infinite Looper as well, just remember the beat one midi will still be there even if it "popped" or was inaudible during recording. You can probably solve this with some clever workarounds but I mention this for the people who are impatient and might not want to set up a bunch of stuff.
Notion is very pretty in this way. I struggle (speed) to get what I want inputted, but always like what I get out at the end of the effort.
ChordPolyPad is also pretty....especially if you have to rely on your ears more than any previous learning because we were poor as mice and only the rich kids up at the big house could afford that man in the fancy blouse to come by and instruct them in the special black and white theories etc.
I highly recommend Navichord.
But if you're going to produce chords using your ears CPP has the disadvantage of not sounding the individual notes as you mark them with the blue dots on the keyboards. The Cubasis chord thingy would seem to me to be an easier option for a person working by ear.
Easiest way imo is to use the chord function in Cubasis
For Gadget, which i use a lot, it's a bit of a pain and i'd really love if they added an open in feature for it. For now, if it's just a few tracks, i'll open the midi file in Promidi, set up 4 gadgets listening to channel 1-4, set sync to external, press record and then switch to Promidi and press play
It works but it's cumbersome
I'm very impressed of the app GuitarCapo+ !
As an MIDI-controller it's fantastic regarding chord progression!
I use it often in Korg Gadget for recording chords and nice melodies...
Just try Jazz Guitar patch in Glasgow, sounds amazing!
It depends on how the app records midi. Some work as you suggested but I think that's because the dev took the time to do something special for 'hey, where did that MIDI NOTE-OFF message come from? Should probably insert a NOTE-ON at the top of the measure.' Bless them. When possible, I tend to purposefully record the first note a little late in this scenario and just go move them back to the one in the Piano Roll afterward.
