Network loopback
I seem to recall there being a plugin to implement "network session" loopback. As I understand it, network session is intended to broadcast/receive data (in this case, Aum MIDI) to/from external devices via a shared session on your lan.
What I want to do is capture the network transmission from Aum in another app running on the same device, but launched outside Aum. And in this case, it's not an Audiobus thing.
I have a vague memory that such a utility might exist, but I can't remember what it might be. Was I hallucinating, or can someone refresh my memory?

Not a plugin but I use this everyday to send midi everywhere. Gotta get the pro version I believe,
To send between devices without Bomebox hardware. But it’s worth it.

Can't you just use normal virtual MIDI? Provided the other app can "see" AUM as a MIDI input, you just route the MIDI to AUM Source in AUM.
There were certain rare cases where apps didn't expose their midi input ports so that other apps couldn't send to them. There should almost never be a case where that is necessary, but I remember it did exist a few times. Bouncing off of Network Session was a workaround in that case.
MidiFlow was one such app that could do it. I believe MidiFire could as well. AUM can now do that as well, though I don't think it could before.
@garden - if you mention the specific apps in question, maybe there's a more direct solution.
In this case the target application is a video synth called Chromatose. Animations can be synced to incoming audio, or parameters can be modulated by control values coming from Bluetooth or Network Midi. I've successfully accomplished that connection between two iPads, but have been unable to do it on the same device, sending sequenced CC from AUM to Chromatose through Network Midi. Virtual Midi doesn't seem to be an available option in Chromatose.
I just got MidiFire, and it is definitely an interesting app that may well come in handy. But it doesn't, as far as I can tell implement loopback, making its output look like incoming Network Midi to the target app. This could also well be a shortcoming of Chromatose, and I'll bring that up with the developer.
Thanks for the ideas.
Humm. So Chromatose doesn't see any other apps exposed midi ports, and it doesn't expose its own port to other apps? But it does see Network Session? So the idea is to send midi to Network Session from the midi sender and have it bounce that back to Network Session then?
Sorry, it's a little hard to visualize, but I don't mind doing some tests if I can be sure I understand what you're trying to do.
In my tests so far, even MidiFlow see network session midi generated on the same device. But I'll keep digging because it's bugging me that I can't remember what the original workaround using network session was used for. It seems like it was used for this use case.
