Is the Ivory Grand IAP for Module worth it?
I downloaded Module today and was wondering if I should take advantage of the grand piano add on pack. Is it worth $19.99?
Comments
As far as your question as to whether it's worth it. It's subjective, so any replies here are not going to help you much. Demos will though : )
Of course this app 'looks' so cool. I have iRig Grand and it's VERY good and better yet FREE (although I upgraded for about $20 or so).
Anyways, I just bought it. Couldn't resist. (I blame you and your thread : ) )
These apps are getting serious now. LOL

I hear you brother. Module's sound is very high quality but in my opinion, you don't get enough sounds to justify the $29 price tag. But don't get me wrong it sounds great.
The only piano samples I have are in Sample Tank. I thought maybe this would be a good way to get something high quality. Another thing I wanted to know is if you get more than one piano.
I HATE being negative about a product, especially from a great company like IK (I have most of their stuff). But Sample Tank is ok,.....sort of.
iGrand from the same company is much, much better ( I'm pretty sure).
This Korg app really needs to be bought and used for a while. It's not pretty to spend this kind of money, but I did a quick Google and it looks impressive.
If Native Instruments did a Kontakt port things would really get going, but this app is along the same vein. Not a toy.
Of course iGrand isn't a toy either, and for it's small sample size is very good. I use some very expensive Desktop samples (Grands), and the iGrand is pleasant sounding enough to use it regularly.
Kudos to iK.

I forgot iGrand is $9.99 on sale with the extra pianos for $9.99. I wonder how they compare to Korg's Ivory Grand.
You mean with Module?
Comparable.
Bump. Same question here
lol I broke down and bought it. It's the best sounding piano I've ever heard but I'm no expert. I'm compairing it to Reason, the preset pianos in Module, and the pianos that come with the original SampleTank. The only downside is that it's variations on only one piano. But I still think it was worth $20 for the high sound quality.

The best comparison would be with iGrand; SampleTank's pianos are nothing compared to iGrand.
Bruno di Micco Korg Module Ivory Piano test:
Still on the fence on this one too...I'm still learning to play so this would be overkill I guess, also own IK iGrand and the expansion pianos.
Judging by file size alone, Ivory should be better by far though...but is it really, and is the difference obvious enough to justify the purchase?

Size doesn't necessarily mean anything. And the only way you can know is by owning it and using it for an extended period, that is if they are comparable.
If I was tight on cash (as we all probably are), I would stick with iGrand until your comfortable spending the money. Trust me, the iGrand is very good with the expansion set.
Also, it's amazing what reverb does to these. Reverb for me is the key.
For instance, to really judge these you probably need to compare them dry or with close mics, as once you add reverb they all sound good
You guys are making me think about buying the iGrand on the $10 sale.
me too mkell
the iGrand IAP also goes on sale every now and then, I got it for $5 a few weeks ago.
But it has not been updated to latest iOS/AB yet, and it still has pop-up ads.
For the price I'd get it, but the 2GB space is just too much for me, I am happy with the other Pianos already in Module..... for now.
I downloaded iGrand. I think Ivory is the winner for sound quality.

I'm exactly with you Mister Dawg. My 128 is all eaten up and 2GB is the currency that's scared me off this....
i am not trolling though you may think i am - i have used just about every rompler pack for kontakt and ivory - i have used them for pc and ipad and with a focusfrite itrack ipad dock - i have module and it sounds good - i would bet ivory is high quality and much cheaper than their solo product
but ik multimedia sucks - every single thing they make all sounds like canned junk - period. don't waste money on igrand or ielectric - i hate those lousy sounding pieces of garbage
sorry ik but you suck and so does amplitube - most of my friends call it amplifyturd
I really love iGrand Piano!! Nice low price and to my non pro ears sounds uper good!
Good deal IMHO.
Yawn.
Ya, I don't care for Amplitude at all, but Sample Tank sounds great to me. I have the irig hd and it serves it's purpose very very well.
So Yawn tooo.
Save your money and buy Collosus for $50
No comarison . I have them both
Korg Module is an absolutely demand if you've got Korg Gadget...
Korg Module give you five new Gadgets in there, including Salzburg with great pianosound in Gadget...
We all love Korg Inc.!
I have Korg Module with Ivory Expansion, iGrand with most of the extra pianos, SampleTank full version. In my opinion iGrand is best but still lacking in many areas - particularly in the obvious velocity swiching and only three layers available. This frustrated me so much that I did a lot of processing and editing of the free Salamander Piano including hand editing of every sample to reduce latency and loop at the far tail ends to reduce size to come up with a 15 layer piano that in my humble opinion beats them all hands down.
Best of all it's free and available here

Module sounds better played with a controller, using a sustain pedal and velocity sensitive keys, more realistic. The advantage with Module over Sampletank is sequencing with Gadget. I had both but ended up using Sampletank a lot less so I deleted it. Sound quality is probably better in Sampletank, performance wise Module is more practical.
@Reuben Awesome! Thanks!

My two cents as a professional piano player...Ivory is the best I've played on iOS. I own sampletank and iGrand. I guess the devs have to make intelligent compromises, and the Korg is the most playable imo. My go to for gigs is pianoteq, which is a physically modelled piano on my MacBook Pro. The pianoteq has a much smaller footprint than a traditionally sampled piano, and I find it better to play (within my price range). Is modelling not possible in iOS? In terms of size/cpu load, it would seem a good option. Until then, Ivory
Colossus Piano is the new competition on the block, it sounds fuller than Ivory but more "classical" if you will! It has less trebles and more mids and doesn't have equalisation. It doesn't run well on anything iPad Air1 and lower though!
I really like Sample Tank's Imperial Grand and the CMP jazz piano, Ivory is very good as well but I don't like its character as much as these other two.
I wonder how Colossus compares to the Bechstein that is in CMP. Similar or completely different?
Posting this from a Colossus Piano review. Seems to make reference to Module, but calls it "Roland Module". I've been tempted by the Ivory IAP of Module, but seems like in the end for this sort of thing that sample size is a factor, and Colossus is, well, bigger, heh. Seems like the Ivory IAP is a good option for something better than stock Module, without being quite so massive in size. It's also on sale for $15 right now, so a quite a bit cheaper than Colossus. Though if you want the best, there's always going to be something with more detailed samples. As iDevices get more powerful and have more storage we'll most likely see the samples come to be the same ones used on desktop/laptops. So it's a tradeoff. Do you need it now? Is the price fair enough for the time it will be useful? In the long run it'll be obsolete more so than good synthesizer apps in my opinion.
