8BitDo and other favorite gamepads for music making

Another thread brought up 8BitDo controllers. I’m a controller collector and I’ve gotten quite a few over the years.

I use Musikraken to translate gamepad inputs to MIDI. The DualShock 4 is my favorite since it has so many variable
inputs - the triggers and sticks are pretty standard analog triggers but it also has the Split touchpad and accelerometer.

Of the 8BitDo devices I have the N30+, the SN30 Pro 2, SN30 Pro, the controller dongle, and the numpad.

I’m not as big on the Switch Pro Controller since it doesn’t have analog triggers. I like the Joy Cons for being compact. They’re nice to set to the side and activate an effect or two.

Xbox controllers are cool. I have an original S controller (spliced a USB onto the cable), an Xbox One controller, the newest Xbox series controller, and the Elite 2. Pretty standard across the board tbh - I probably prefer the newest standard controller but that glossy Xbox One controller feels great. I wish I could find an OEM wired 360 controller and an original Duke.
