Yes you can if “mod” means modifying.

I meant animating or modulating over time, it’s fun playing with those as a sequence plays and doesn’t seem to upset the engine so u wondering if they could be recorded in app. I guess in an AU swing you could do it externally but the joy of this wee thing is the portrait fullscreen on iPhone…

Speaking of modulation, this app has no AUv3 parameters exposed whatsoever, which is an awful pity!

I wondered if you meant modulate rather than modify. I just checked and sample “start” and “length” can be adjusted while recording with standalone Polaris.

MIDI out would be huge fun, I think, if you ever feel like it @meteaure.

I'm considering it for a future update, thanks for the recommendation!

If you could let the user pick the MIDI Note and Channel it would be really useful in AUM for my workflow.
I hope you also consider adding an IAP for us to leave you TIPs as you deliver updates that implement user requests.
You won’t get rich but it is the best form of feedback you can probably get.

Good catch about the channel, I'll add that next. How would you change the midi note? Just one note over the whole keyboard? Or same as now, i.e. two keys per octave?

Drum apps distribute devices across the keyboard with varying mappings. So allow any midi note 0 to 127 would be nice. I might target a Mozaic MIDI script and like to not be limited to just a handful of possible inputs.

I hope that helps you design this feature. Any MiDI out will get used by me to sync more apps with your composing scheme.

    Same for me, a hand-me-down Samsung S

And I did purchase a forbidden Huawei too, so I could use G Stomper Producer, Milkytracker, Bandpass, FakeSID, DrumPadBeats, Phoenix Studio, Yossi Barel’s Synthesizer (this one is now a PC vst, an amazing sample based sequencer groovebox)

Some of these outstrip iOS stuff, with or without the legendary Android latency issue. The Huawei hardware seems to mitigate latency lags. The Huawei tablet is a beautiful thing, form factor wise.

Not all the above are still on the Play Store, but these have been the best stuff in Android, along with the cross platform stuff all of which kicks ass (SunVox, FLSM, Cubasis, AEM, Nanoloop, Koala, Flip, Caustic, and now the lovely Polaris)

Can you see Iceland from your house?

Thanks for the list of Android apps to check out. I need to stay active to keep adding new info to my neural nets.
This weeks insanity are two MIDI based drum pad devices… both (hopefully) suitable as laptop devices so my drum tracks can sound more like me and less like the competent robots of LumBeats.

@meteaure the exposure of auv3 parameters is a great addition.

I was playing with Polaris and was reminded of how easy it is to get lovely little beats out of this app. I hope you’re considering some sort of pattern system which would make the app so much more powerful. Being able to set sequence length per voice would be second on my wishlist. That feature would greatly enrich the rhythmic complexity produced by the app.

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Can you describe the pattern system you have in mind?

  • edited February 28

You bet. A pattern would be a saved state of sequencer settings that could be triggered. The Audiomodern apps like Riffer and Playbeat are examples. As a simple example, pattern 1 could be a sequence containing only kick notes, pattern 2 could contain kick and snare notes, pattern 3 could contain kick, snare, hats notes.

I hate to even suggest it because the iPhone layout of Polaris is so ergonomic I’m not sure where you’d put pattern saving and triggering.

In a previous response you mentioned using “trig conditions” and long sequences via extend as a way of adding variation. I wasn’t sure what you meant by trig condition.

I missed the pattern navigation functions that allow you to select, copy and paste patterns for sequences that have been “extended “ beyond 16 steps. I also now see that many of the midi controls that are exposed are track specific. I get what you mean now @meteaure about modulating trig conditions. If there was a way to expose pattern triggering for tracks with multiple patterns that would get at what I was talking about above.

Late winter here, arrived this week all at once. Snowshoes for the dog walks. Pipes froze last week but no leaks upon thawing.

A good setting for an app called Polaris. Though the suggested mittens keep me from using it outside

Ok I see, that's an idea I might develop at some point, but for now it's not in the scope of the future updates I have in mind. You can do it at the track level for now though by clicking on the arrow button below the pattern dots on the right side. It will make the current 16 steps sequence loop, and you can switch between them manually.

In a previous response you mentioned using “trig conditions” and long sequences via extend as a way of adding variation. I wasn’t sure what you meant by trig condition.

I see you might have figured it out. It's the possibility to have a trig once every 2 or 4 grid. You access the feature by long pressing a step and dragging up/down.

If there was a way to expose pattern triggering for tracks with multiple patterns that would get at what I was talking about above.

I thought about having some kind of clip view like in Ableton Live, but it doesn't really work here since the sequences are chained together. So the solution for that would be to have what you describe in the first place, a "scene" or "pattern" concept that would allow to trigger sequences across tracks at the same time.

this is cool. the ui for modulation is nice. i agree with the poster who wanted to modulate sample start (decay does end. maybe there could be a second row of mod options with that and effects send or something) .

the probability section is nice. i see the good functionality. i would prefer something that was more like “play this step every x out of y measure.” maybe it could have both!

The current feature is actually what you describe last, not probability driven.
For example if you set a step fo "3|4", it means that it will play the 3rd time over 4 entire loops.

    Thanks for the response.

For the use case I mentioned, a separate view or changes to the gui wouldn't be necessary. Since the app already keeps track of patterns when a sequence in a track is extended, you'd just need to expose "select patternA1", "select patternB1", etc as automatable. I can understand how this might be tricky as patterns only exist if a sequence is "extended".

But as you describe, it's possible to do this now by switching patterns on the GUI.

indeed. useful. so i’m advocating for probability. but just adding the x bar out of 3 mostly like you have it would be simple and help for making stuff seem less rigid.

  • Whoa
Missed this one. Didn't know it was on ios too
    Love it on android

Congrats on the release here too @meteaure

  • This app is ridiculously good: so fast and intuitive. Jumped right in without any need for instruction.

A definite Hit for iOS. Thanks @meteaure !
