I wasn’t going to buy Polaris…
…until I realized two things.
- It uses Elektron-style trig conditions
- I can import my own samples
There might be another app that will do this. If there is, I’m not familiar with it.
Anyways, Polaris is dead easy, always a plus for a dunce like me.🙂
All the samples are from the Ambient Construction Kit by our own @colorsinspace.
I am rather pridefully pleased with this one.
How about you?

It's gorgeous!
I was unsure about purchasing Polaris at first, but this music and sample pack seem well suited for me. And if it's dead easy, I should be able to grok it in no time flat!
Also, you're not a dunce. You're one of the best Ambient producers here alongside Svetlovska. ❤️
Sounds great! To be honest I never even heard of this app until now. Definitely going to check it out though.
Sounds really great. So this is an app, not a vst, correct?
Thanks!
Polaris is fairly new, the last week or so I’d say. Doug did a nice intro.
And thanks for the samples!🙂
Thanks very much! I’m strictly iOS, no vst’s here.

I watched a couple videos about Polaris, and now I'm unsure to purchase it. What can it do that Koala Sampler can't already do?
Not much. Koala is far more powerful.
It's more that it has a different approach to sequencing than Koala's more piano roll based approach and that you can set some things such such as cutoff and decay per step.
Ah, okay, so what I saw in the videos is basically all there is to it. I'll probably give it a miss then. Thanks for letting me know Mike.
I just love using Koala for Frippertronics-styled tape looping.
Fun and wider in scope than first appears. Immediately into the Top Five as regards waiting outside of the dressing room for another to undress themselves as required and then get dressed into clothes they may or may not buy and then get undressed from those and dressed again as they originally appeared in the shop etc. This is no small musical matter.
You've (re)intrigued me. I just don't have GAS like I used to have, and though Polaris is reasonably priced, I'm just wondering how deep it can go. If you can explain it to a fence-sitter like me (whether here or in a DM), I'm open-minded.
@jwmmakerofmusic I think you are wise to be reticent. I have no doubt you could make credible things with Polaris, but then you already do that and more with your existing machinery and while variety is the spice etc diffusion is or can be a great weakening to the creative self. However, I measure most things (lovers, creativity, the snow that's threatening to fall in Austin) by the power of the enthusiasm they exhibit but also cause within me. Initial fondness for Polaris may well be because I just got a large phone and I am amazed at what I can do with the thing now I can see etc. Ask me again in a month and, presuming the Missus isn't buying clothes every day, I will be happy to report as regards how much use it is getting (t)here in February.
Haha! Nice! Also, good on ya for getting (I assume) a Pro Max. My 1TB Pro Max 16 is what I use Auxy Studio on, and sometimes I fiddle with other apps on the go with it as well. I wouldn't use AUM on that though, which is why I use an iPad for that.
(I hope someday Apple releases a 1TB base model iPad. I'd be all over that!)
Harmonica or Kazoo? Doesn't really matter which. I can annoy others equally well with either. I do not need both. But since the goal is to entertain myself, the more toys the merrier sometimes.
Kazoo is more annoying. 😈
