Synth Like THIS (no MIDI required)

How can the Quad Cortex (or any pedal based fx) get such a sweat synth..... see link

BUT.... I can't get a decent plugin to do this on my iPad???

Look at this beauty. You can select different wave formats, and other adjustments.

I keep wondering - does the use of an external audio interface (external to the iPad) create a latency that makes this type of synth processing very difficult or next to impossible - for live performance 🤔

  • Considering the Quad Cortex hardware costs more than a loaded iPadPro and the majority of iOS users are unwilling to pay more than $20 for apps it's no wonder the big players have zero interest in selling their stuff for pocket money...

For vocalists we have the Nuro Audio Xvox which is zero-latency and people just complain it's too expensive :sunglasses:

Have you used RoxSyn or PD Space Synth? They will probably have more latency than the purpose-built QC (which is more expensive than an iPad).

The tracking in that video was pretty glitchy.

  • How many people do you think would buy such an app and how much do you think they’d be prepared to pay for it? I think unfortunately, there’s your answer.

I will check out this app; but (on the surface) I DO NOT see any waveform oscillator choices like sawtooth, square, etc. - I will watch some more YouTube videos on this.

    It's not a synth, it's a vocal processor :sunglasses:

Therein lies the problem and challenge..... TENS OF THOUSANDS of guitarists "would" come to the iPad side for their rigs /pedalboards...IF...... Think of it like math; OF COURSE, an app developer won't make any money off of a solid guitar synth for the very small group of users that currently exist and might buy it; but UNLESS there are more/better apps available - the iPad will never grow its user base.

IMHO, I don't think it's just about having more / better apps aimed at guitar players. I remember when Bias came out and there were predictions that guitarists would be flocking to the iPad in their masses. They didn't. :|

I think until someone really famous starts using an iPad based setup and gets featured on a Premier Guitar rig rundown interview, we're not even going to see tens of guitarists ditching their amps and pedals and coming to the iPad.

I don't think there are very many guitarists out there that care all that much about having a "guitar synth". And that certainly wouldn't be the main reason they'd ditch their pedal boards. As Rob says, what the vast majority of guitarists need has existed on iPad/iPhone for a long time. What you envision wouldn't move the needle as regards more guitarists replacing their pedal boards with mobile devices.

How many guitarists have you seen or listened to that feature more than just distortion and FX in their playing? I can count the ones I can think of on one hand. MIDI guitars have been around for decades and you don't see guitarists flocking to them to in droves to rock synthesizers either. It's just not a huge big deal in my opinion.
