High quality drums

edited November 2014 in General App Discussion

Hi.

I'm looking for drums. :)

I started doing a few things for almost a year now but I'm not satisfied with what I was able to get in terms of drums.

I know nothing about VST's or that type of stuff. :) Not that I don't want to learn. It's just that I only have a shitty PC since a few months but... Shitty.

So... synthesis, samples... Whatever. Just... not too cold or techno or trash or... you know.
Throw them at me. Apps, banks...

My references?

Amon Tobin.

Too wide?

Yeah. Maybe drum and bass, breakbeat...

Bonobo is also a good reference but also wide and usually with tons of reverbs and crazy stuff (that I like).

Thank You Very Much. Great place, this.

  • Ninja Tune Drums type of thing. :)

  • Fxpansion Geist when it goes on sale.

  • I've watched a few moderately successful EDM producers at work. They typically use drum samples loaded into samplers in Ableton or Logic. They tweak the sounds in the sampler using filters, envelopes, etc. The samples are often layered, EQed, and/or treated with FX.

There are many choices for samples, and what sounds good is subjective. A couple of options from said producers are Loopmasters and Producer Loops.

The best way is (IMHO) mining your own gems, creative field sampling, you'd be surprised how many objects around your house can be sampled for percussion. Kitchen utensils, door slams and egg shakers are well known sources. If you have a train yard near by, you have all the drum samples you need. Season to taste.
