DM10 is a drum app. And more… There Are No Safe Words Here

Scream if you want to go faster.

I always liked the straightforwardness of the original DM1 drum app. I only today found out (the gods know how late I am to that party) a new version was out, fully AUV3, and, as far as I can work out, with just about every drum machine under the sun represented on it. Along with a bass synth and various keyboard representations too. Naturally, I had to take it for a spin. Loving that tympani preset…

  • That's pretty awesome how you came up with this piece. "Late to the party", sure, but well worth the wait for this piece. :) I love it.

Thank you :) To be honest I was looking for sound sources to feed my new Deluge as I want some wonky Lo Fi kits on it and figured that making my own on the iPad with third party tape and vinyl fx might be the way to go, and I just happened to see the DM10 was out, and has built in wav export, and well as a whole batteria of interesting kits to mess with. So, that was that. Always did like the original DM1 & 2’s simplicity. And then of course I had to follow my iron rule - if I buy an app, or gadget, on that same day I have to make a track with it… and here we are :)

  • Very good track. I like the use of triplets. DM-10 is one of my favorite apps. I use it standalone and bring it into AUM all the time.

Good rule to follow. :) I try to stick to the same rule.

  • Nice (and not too spooky) accompaniment to an evening constitutional with the cat in the dark lanes by my house ❤️

@FizzyLizzy27 : thank you! Just curious, why are you bringing the standalone into AUM, instead of using it inside AUM? I got DM10 largely because it, unlike the earlier DM apps, is AUV3. Am I missing a trick? (Probably - I missed the app for a long while after all!)

    @Krupa : you walk your cat !?!?? :)

  • She’s a funny one so I kinda have to unless I want her shouting at me all night 😅 plus it’s kinda fun

Ha! I love that photo. Makes me think of the Kipling story, The Cat That Walked By Himself. This is the final paragraph:

“Then the Man threw his two boots and his little stone axe (that makes three) at the Cat, and the Cat ran out of the Cave and the Dog chased him up a tree; and from that day to this, Best Beloved, three proper Men out of five will always throw things at a Cat whenever they meet him, and all proper Dogs will chase him up a tree. But the Cat keeps his side of the bargain too. He will kill mice and he will be kind to Babies when he is in the house, just as long as they do not pull his tail too hard. But when he has done that, and between times, and when the moon gets up and night comes, he is the Cat that walks by himself, and all places are alike to him. Then he goes out to the Wet Wild Woods or up the Wet Wild Trees or on the Wet Wild Roofs, waving his wild tail and walking by his wild lone.”

And this is the illustration from the original publication. Looks kind of familiar…

I am the cat that walks by herself. And all places are alike to me.

  • I had not read that one before, gonna have to read the rest now! Great the illustration matches too, we were actually being pursued by a cyclist grunting their way up the hill behind us with a strobe light at the moment that photo was taken. All good adventure for her, she flopped out exhausted when we got home😅

I love how self contained the app app is and the design. The pads are really responsive and I can dial good sounds in on the synths easily. Arranging song parts is great and really well thought out.

A lot of times I open up AUM or any DAW and get choice paralysis. With DM-10 I put the song together, load it into AUM and either run with the built in sounds (which are great) or route MIDI to another synth/drum machine. It’s the best stripped down Groovebox I’ve used.

  • Nice! I dig it.

I bought DM-10 when it came out, and never used it. Not even once! Thanks for reminding me that it exists lol

Yeah, I didn't forget DM-10 exists. I just haven't used it yet in a project, lol.

  • Love the tune, and love the variety of sounds you coaxed out of DM10. I had never played around with the synth and bass, but after your past went in and took a look. Having those inside a drum machine are pretty unique.

DM10 not just a drum machine - song machine

Great track and exposition re the cat

  • Great track.. cool instrumentation choices.. a settling yet slightly underlying eerie vibe.. I like it.. and thanks for reminding me how capable DM10 can be.. I don’t use it enough..
@Krupa awesome shot of your cat out for an evening stroll.. @Svetlovska thanks for tying that photo together with a Kipling story.. I’m off to read the rest of it.. while listening to this track.. 😁
