  • Looks nice and seems reasonable at $169.99 for preorder in the States.

  • Speaking of Novation product, let me think out loud.

I’ve just spotted the Novation SL MkIII (49-key) on sale here for $634 CAD, which works out to roughly $450 USD (new)

That feels like a massive discount compared to the usual retail price, and I’m feeling a bit torn. I’m currently evaluating my options and I’m not sure which way to go:

Grab the MkIII now: It’s a steal at this price, and the sequencing capabilities are already great.

Wait for a potential MkIV: Such a big price drop makes me wonder if Novation is clearing out stock because a MkIV is on the horizon. Does anyone have any insight into why the discount is so deep? Is there any solid info (or even good rumors) about a MkIV coming soon?

I'd love to hear your thoughts. Is the MkIII still a "must-buy" at $450 USD in 2026, or would I regret not waiting for the next generation?

The Novation Lauchkey 49 mk4 is a good option but I really like good keybed.

    Still thinking...

  • I’ve got its bigger sibling, the Launchcontrol XL3 and I’m very happy with it. The build quality is great and operating the encoder knobs feels smooth. They have configurable acceleration so both quick filter sweeps and precise tuning is possible.
If you want this smaller version, get it.

I would think that the SL will be replaced sooner rather than later due to it using the older style buttons from older Novation gear. Most their gear uses newr switches and knobs now, so could see this following the rest soon! Hopefully, as while my launchkey 49 mk4 is great value, the keybed doesnt feel great - they definetly need a step up, I just wonder if its a hard maket segment with Arturia and NI competition?

Did you get the Mini or the standard one? I got the standard version with the full-sized keys, they're a bit plasticky and one creaks a bit, but not bad. I slightly regretted not going for the Mini as the one I have takes up a fair bit of space, and means I have to move things around to get it to fit on the desk.

I got the standard 49 key. To be honest, the software deals that came with it, have mostly covered its cost for myself as ive been building up my Mac software. It does work well with my new laptop setup, as it works well with Ableton and Reason. I bought a Novation Launch Control XL too, but while that works great for Ableton and Fender Stuido Pro (in HUI mode), it doesnt work with Reason out of the box as the LK49 does.

I would replace the LK49 though with a better keybed, but like yourself, space is an issue.

  • Just to add here, I have had issues with the XL version and Logic Pro, but it might be due to conflicts with my many other controllers and my chain of USB adaptors lol

Ah right, I've got the 25 key version - the width is ok, but it's very deep! Keys are alright, but a bit cheap feeling. To be honest I haven't used it since getting the Push. I've also got a big NI Kontrol Mk1 here - the keys are lovely, but it's a massive great thing, and I've got nowhere to put it - I need a bigger desk/house!

Agree with the Novation software bundle, very generous.

Yep times seemed simpler with just an iPad, but I just wouldnt want to do without being surrounded by controllers now. At least im spending less on software! I may have bought 4 DAWs and lots of VSTs, but the deals on Mac software are very good! I already have pretty much everything I would need and have spent way less than I spent on iPad music apps over the years. Arturia FX Collection 6 at its intro price for myself was £112 for 39 real quality VSTs - doesnt take long to spend that on iPad apps, even at release deal prices!

I nearly went for that one - think I had the same deal, in the end I plumped for Pigments. I’ve installed a couple of the FX demos though - think it’s about 20 minutes use before they cut out.

Think we have drifted off the original post topic again lol. I cant even remember if we are on the Mac Neo or Launch Control thread now lol....

Me too lol....just one more question....how do you find the Push 3 as an audio interface?

Better than I expected, after reading some of the reviews. I've got an old iRig, and also was previously using the Maschine Mk3 audio interface for guitar, but the Push is better than both.

No complaints at all, nice clean sound! I'd planned to get a MiniFuse, but honestly don't need that one now.

Thanks. Tat will do me then until I need an input for a better vocal setup if ever lol

    Bit long for my setup.

Would probably buy if I bought a powerful ipad or Laptop.

Kept an ipad for sequencing and as additional controllers.

Keep launchpad x and add the launchpad encoders.

    Wouldnt need anything else really.

I must make a point of using the piano I bought ( this evening ) and not used.

The nice wood stand ( basically sort a fake looking piano lid )

Theres hardly any wood left as I kept moving ipads around.

  • Randomess is good.

Does anyone think the picture on the wall ( passed down by females ) to me.

Could perhaps be Kira ( I dont know anyone else that looks like her )

She were actually in my dream ( last night ) for the first time.

I actually remember saying ' I wouldnt say I love you yet, as that would be weird.

Perhaps Im not into someone as much now ( not that anyone is into me )

She is awesome though here and the music is amazing production. The acoustic vibe and the singers.

How durable is the iPad's USB-C connector? Does the cable in this picture put too much strain on the port? Maybe I'm just being overly cautious with my gear after all.

How hard are the USB C connector of the iPad? Do the wire on this picture force the USB C connector of the iPad?

Maybe I'm just too cautious with my thing after all.

    They all lightning ports.

2 are wired to audio4c ( for audio and midi )

The 3rd is just headphone out ( but can also gain din midi ) because of an iconnect mio.

Although thats not setup at the mo. Currently wouldnt need midi ( apart from perhaps syncing Drambo patterns up/down button ) mapped across all ipads.

So the ipad on the bottom right hardwires sequencer generators to the left ipad ( midi captured in drambo ) record with loopy and samplers sometimes. Sequence trigger audios.

The top ipad is drums and gets bluetooth midi from the same generator ipad ( so the generator ipad hardwire seqeunces and use controllers to an ipad plus bluetooths similar to another ipad )

Whilst the generator ipad itself is also for swams ( now and again ) and because right handed screen control for swams is better.

Defo good ( more screens ) and with good sync. If you obviously plan to move stems to a DAW.

    Im not even sure.

    If ipads were usbc.

How the headphone out ipad in pic ( if made usbc ) would get hardwired din. I guess dongles for headphone out on usbc adaptors are just for a headphone out ? How would you get midi if there isnt a dual adaptor like a cck ( plus some din to usbc converter )

Seems my setups on a timer anyway.

Bluetooth to multiipads dosent seem stable ( perhaps Drambo might work some stable bluetooth magic in future )

Not that you asked about this lol.

Its all good tech talk though.

In theory ( because i havent made a song yet )

When it gets to editing Drambo patterns.

Wouldnt want to have to press 3 different patterns on 3 ipads ( plus the linger or progress pattern button on 3 ipads )

Can currently map 3 same buttons on each ipad because of din midi controller.

Scroll back/forwared a patterns, synced across ipads, plus sync the linger/progress button.

You can then navigate main Drambo patterns like its one Drambo.

Then sequence loopy and audio clips via patterns via midi and Drambo sequencers.

This is the steroided ( steroid version ) of some Elektrons people were going on about when Drambo arrived.

Although Elektron is obviously good and better in ways.

    What im saying is.

Its like being able to have the exact same sequencer on all Elektrons but then use a button to navigate patterns/songmode on all elektrons without touching elektrons.

Then have sequenced loopy donuts and samplers triggered inside tracks.

Plus all the bonus of Drambo, synths, radio. The internet. Fx. etc.

I guess its an upgraded computer hardwares

but not as powerful as just a desktop DAW.

So actually more like working with hardware patterns.
