Stem Separation in Loopy Pro...are we there yet?

This may be bleeding edge or an obscure use case. I'm looking for a way to do stem separation on live input, and preferably incorporate it into my LP template.

The current focus for processing stems in general is file-based and/or offline, but given the short amount of time of a loop (less than 10 seconds), near realtime separation should be possible.

Seems to me it's mostly workflow getting in the way: for instance, in Koala it takes longer to capture a loop, go into edit and do the 4 button presses...than the actual processing of extracting the stems. Pretty much the same on desktop DAWs, DJ software, etc.

A one button, capture loop, then replace with stems should be possible. It would be neat if this was a loopy pro built-in feature. I don't think there's any app or plugin in any format that does stem separation without a fair amount of clicking and/or menu-diving.

I doubt that's planned. It's not even on the roadmap. You might want to add a feature request over on https://feedback.loopypro.com, then post a link to the request here to see if you can get some upvotes.

Good idea. Obviously, a lot of DAWs are adding this feature. I think that once more folks start creatively applying stem separation, it will become a more popular tool. I look at it as just another form of editing. It's often used for basic stuff like isolating vocals or drums from pre-recorded tracks, but other possibilities have barely been explored. Especially in a live context.

  • Hers's the feature request. Let's make it happen!

My workaround to this not being in Loopy Pro is that real-time stem separation is in Djay Pro, you perhaps knew that. feed that in to a loopy pro audio channel, Loopy widgets change the volume levels of Djay's stems, capture as necessary, process, effect, vocode, whatever. Not perfect, but not terrible, . Ableton link for sync between them. Hopefully Ableton LinkAudio will epand this possibility too. As Djay Pro doesn't do live audio input decks this wouldn't work for everything but does work for any archive of digital audio

Yeah, live audio capture directly into stems is the innovation. I don't think it's really been done in any plugin, DAW, or DJ app, desktop or mobile.
