I'd say go for a refurbished M3 iPad Air with at least 512gb storage. I use a 1TB M3 iPad Air, which I bought new.
They have the M4 Airs out now, but honestly M3 gets the job done imho.
Amazon has some good deals on refurbished m5's I believe.

Can u run 2 instances of fRMS with that device? Mine only has enough ram to run one instance per Imaginado.
Haven't bothered much with FRMS, so I'm not sure mate. Everyone's mileage will vary, of course, and I'm just spitting what I think may work for EnvelopeFollower.
But, my M3 Air can run 20+ tracks in FL Studio Mobile without choking as well as handle a lot of layers on a large canvas in ProCreate. It can also handle Gadget very well too as well as NS2 (RIP) and Cubasis 3.
i’ve had no problems yet with the m1. using 5ish instruments with effects in loopy has been smooth
2 instances of FRMS on an old iPad Pro (2018) with A12X CPU -> no problem.
The choice of patch on FRMS matters greatly in what it can handle. If a patch involves all 4 granular oscillators running and each of those has a high grain count, it will bring most devices to their knees pretty quickly once the polyphony adds up.
But with more efficient patch design and lower polyphony, my old iPad Pro 2017 can handle FRMS no problem, even a couple of instances.
It depends on how much music you are going to be making. I have an Air4 256 GB with a ton of apps and it’s fast as I could want and it’s more than plenty memory. I will never use it all. I have an Air 3 as well which is perfectly capable (and it’s got the headphone socket). I don’t think Apple will be dropping support for the 3 anytime soon - + the 4 will be capable of os updates for a very long time. Both of these will easily cope with your requirements.
