Hohner Pianet Shootout
Following on the heels of my recent Fender Rhodes Smackdown, this time up it’s not the Wurly, it’s not the Clav, it’s the Hohner Pianet!
The Hohner Pianet electric piano is little known compared to the Fender Rhodes or Wurlitzer. And yet it was used on many classic records of the ‘60s and early 70s by artists such as The Beatles, The Zombies, Led Zeppelin and more. I spent several weeks researching the Pianet, and discovering famous tracks that featured it. I owned one briefly back in the 70s, between my Wurlitzer 140B and Rhodes Mark 1 73 Suitcase but scarcely remember it, other than it used a weird system of adhesive suction pads to pluck the metal reeds.
