Thought I’d give it a go, it’s kinda sweet but the note entry interface is weirdly unresponsive/slow on my iPhone 15 , anyone else similar experience?

*I emailed the dev and they got back pretty quick and said they’d look into it…

  • I like the UI. I was wondering how it sounds. I still use 1 bit and pixltracker…

  • The dev is very responsive. I downloaded it last week and had to troubleshoot why it wasn’t making any sound (the dev had coded it to be silent if your phone was set to silent - I told them that this is not how music apps work). I also suggested they look into making it Auv3 and was told they’d consider it, but it didn’t sound like a priority. I’m glad they added it so quickly.

So far this app is fun for quick little ideas. It’s a little finicky but I love a quick little groove box, and it can export audio for sampling.

  • No way to make loops though?

At the bottom, hold your finger on the button with a square with a triangle inside. You will then get the option to play once or loop.

  • When I pit a hihat on the same position as the kickbass the kick doesnt make a dound anymore. Only the hihat.

  • If I make a mrlody yhe whole drumpart doesn’t sound anymore.
Plus theres a weird klicking sound.

    I can confirm this problem.

For me it’s the opposite. The melody disappears and only the drums is heard.

@Pixel i am really enjoying your app. It is well designed. I wish to get more musical range than one octave on the Melody side.

When I listen to 8 bit classics they seems to have 2 or 3 octaves of notes to use.

He's not the developer, although people keep mistaking him for one. He's just being helpful by posting info and links when he notices a new app dropping 😜

In my mind I tought Pixel that goes with 8-bit. He must be the dev. lol

I wrote a email from his website.

  • Got an update bit you can stil not use two drumsounds at the same time. 😕

It’s possible that’sa design feature; many 8 bit systems would have a single drum track due to hardware limitations. The dev is very friendly and responsive though so get in touch if it’s bothering you…

  • Huh, now Au, instrument only, correct?

  • I deleted it.

It’s still stand alone with a completely different Auv3 instrument.

I wrote to the dev and never got an answer.

Yeah gotya. That’s weird. I thought I must have been missing something with the Auv3.

Yeah, the app is like a little groove box. The Auv3 is more like a synth. Nothing to do with the groove box.

Waaait, so when you load this as an auv3 it’s basically a 8bit chiptune synth? If so, cooool! I used to use one called PAPU but it was giving me issues a while back and hadn’t been updated in even longer.

Yes and it even as a arp which the groove box does not.

No one octave limitations that the groove box has. That one octave limitation makes the groove box a toy for me. Give me at least two octaves so I can write a bass and a melody.

Appreciate that! I thought so too but watched some videos of the dev building songs and the workflow just wasn’t for me. Using something like this or minibit with all my other auv3s sits better even tho I know it’s not the true chiptune process

Yeah, that Kira Studio workflow won't be for me either until it allows note entry via keyboard vs having to draw in the piano roll, that approach is not my jam at all

  • Dev let me know that they added a portrait mode this morning, and they’ve fixed the responsiveness thing and added a draw mode.

  • The auv3 synth is pretty rad, especially for the price tag. Nice app!

Does the AUv3 of this do anything that other chiptune synths don't? I'm thinking of things like SquareSynth, I dunno whether you're familiar?

    @Gavinski
I doubt it. It’s just a very straightforward 8bit synth with a few bells n whistles like legato, Arpeggiator, etc. Well worth the price of admission but if you already have something that does chiptune you’re probably good. I did not so this was a nice surprise for me 😀
