Goodbye Pork Pie Town

A recent short break, staying near Melton Mowbray inspired this track…

The Melton Mowbray pork pie is a traditional British savoury pastry, renowned for its hand-raised, hot-water crust, seasoned chopped pork filling, and savoury jelly. Protected by EU PGI status, authentic pies are made in the Melton Mowbray region, often baked free-standing, giving them a distinctive, bowed-out shape, and served cold.

Some sources believe the distinctive shape inspired the Pork Pie hat which inspired Charlie Mingus etc etc..

  • Love this, @GeoTony. Subtle but energetic too. I always wondered what pork pie was. What did you use for the rhythm parts? Nice little lip fall at the end, sounds like a trumpeter would do.

  • Just lovely. The kind of Jazz I love. (Actually, I like all Jazz, lol.)

  • Nice job love that kind of vibe. I’m in the British Cayman Islands right now, but I have no guitar to write with so sad. How the he// do you drive on other side of road I feel I’m a danger to the people here when I’m behind the wheel

  • Thanks @Dav , appreciate the comment coming from a real horn player 🎺
The percussion is Roli Noise Drums, now sadly abandonware but still working . I’m just feeding it some , for all intents and purposes , semi random notes from the 4th channel of Piano Motifs.
    Cheers Jim ( @jwmmakerofmusic ) and @Jmd8928 👍
Sorry about the lack of instrument… surely you know that it’s the rest of the world that’s wrong when it comes to driving 😊

  • I used to work as a bone man, collecting the guts and bones from butchers and abbatoirs around that area. We were always offered pork pie everywhere we stopped. It was the last thing you felt like eating.

  • I’ve been vegetarian for 40+ years @Herne so the delights of a pork pie are a dim and distant memory 🥧

  • Love the solo intro - got some nice bluesy moments to it without it taking over the entire piece. Develops really nicely, and you do a great job at keeping the main instrument parts interesting throughout.

Not sure if you know, but I grew up in the UK, so I was thinking about food I miss while reading that and listening…

  • Cheers @michael_m , didn’t know that, let me have your address and I’ll send you a jar of marmite 😊☹️

    😂

I can actually buy it at my local supermarket. It’s in the “International foods” aisle…

  • that horn has that bluesy phrasing that I love so much in the original Bladerunner. so much feeling.
