Playing midi files on an iphone

I really did a search and couldnt find an answer.

Now when I click on a midifile the files app says “open with…”
And then lists a number of apps that cant play midifiles.

Is there an app for easy browsing midi files?

Also is there also a good midiplayer I can use as source in Aum?

  • I hope it’s not a dumb question. 😊
I only have experience with hardware midi.

  • When you say MIDI file, do you mean arbitrary MIDI files or general MIDI? Most of the iOS sequencers import midi files.

    AudioShare has midi file previewing?

  • Well I know how to import a midi files in cubasis.

But not a way to browse through them before importing.

    Looking for something a bit like samplecrate does with samples;
    Press and play.

  • I think this also allows you to play midi files, without need to buy an iap:

    https://apps.apple.com/app/media-assistant/id6466176223

Audioshare, by the same dev as aum, also allows simple preview of midi files (no choice of sound fonts to play them through tho)

SampleCrate previews midi files. However it's drum midi files you want to preview, neither AudioShare nor SampleCrate previews them with drum sounds.

All good info in preceding comments. Regarding previewing with drum sounds, Media Assistant can do in place playback:

**Media Assistant **(already mentioned) can load up SF2 files and you can set a default that will it will use when playing MIDI files straight from the browser. I believe it can load up SF2 without an IAP, but don't have a way to check right now.

My favorites at the moment for previewing MIDI files:

Helium **can preview MIDI files and you can load up an entire folder and click each one to preview it, very convenient, but if course you need to load it in a host and point it to an instrument.
    **Prism Midi Sequencer
recently got the ability to load up MIDI files and you can point to a folder and preview the files pretty easily, but again, must be loaded in a host and sent to an instrument. It's quite a sophisticated sequencer, so not the best value if you just want to preview MIDI files.
KQ Sampei is one of my favorite MIDI file players, with the ability to load up a library of different soundfonts, many controls and the ability to have multitrack MIDI play different soundfonts on different channels.

There are many more apps that can accept an "open with" from a MIDI file in the Files app, but the ones above are the most convenient for me.

    Musk Midi Player
Midi Fresh, which i think is free plays multiple channel midi files well.
Audioshare plays midi files, i keep a lot there, i mean it’s only a simple tone but it works.
