Not really. You can directly send digital audio from iPhone to a Mac using Apple's IDAM, but not to an iPad. You could record the audio, then AirDrop the file. Otherwise, you'll need some hardware.
what hardware is there that has usbc input and usbc output ?
It will be some form of audio interface, or a pair of audio interfaces. Nothing as simple as a direct USB-to-USB interface. Other folks can advise on the best available options.
I personally would just record whatever audio just on my iPhone and then Airdrop it to my iPad. I wouldn't want to muck around with 10 extra steps just to get audio onto my iPad. Then again, are you planning to record an instrument app that's not AUv3, has no IAA, and has no internal way to record audio to wav?
Note: You can do MIDI between two iOS/iPadOS devices with just a USB cable.
yeah, i just saw how the new mpc sampler hardware allowed direct sampling in via a usb cable from a iphone, and thought how nice that would be. was just curious. i guess ill just continue to airdrop, or use an interface.
Do you have some kind of specific reason to do a live Recording in real-time? Because this would require an audio interface as other posts have mentioned. Otherwise just use your phone to record and then send the recording from your iPhone to your iPad for post processing. Time consuming but overall simple enough to do
Even when iOS devices still had aux jacks, this was not really possible due to how the OS handles audio unfortunately. I wish it was that simple but for all kinds of reasons it’s just not how it works anymore. I remember back in the windows 7 days I could just plug whatever I wanted into my computer’s mic jack but that was a different time. I miss the old days lol > @eross said:
i just like to turn on something like youtube, or a movie, or spotify or a record whatever and just randomly grab snippets of audio in real time. it’s just a fun workflow. where as doing it all within one device seems to be more of a stop and go operation that kills the creativity of finding samples. maybe it’s just me. it reminds me of me of grabbing samples back in the 90’s. no files system to save and export etc. just fun
