Best iPhone App for Editing Audio

Looking for some options for editing audio on my iPhone. Mostly I need to be able to cut and splice. I've been able to make it work on Cubasis by duplicating and trimming, but I'm hoping there's something that's more dedicated to audio editing instead of a full DAW.

My favorite is Meow Audio Editor by @SevenSystems, but if you're looking for something that runs as an AUv3 so that you can edit directly in a host then Neon Editor is good.

The OG standalone audio editor for me is Twisted Wave, but I can't recommend it because in all these years it has never gotten the ability to edit in bars/beats/etc.. It does have the advantage of being able to process audio with AUv3 effects in the app.

Auditor is outstanding IMO, but it's iPad only.

There's also WaveBox. I never got on well with it initially and never spent much time with it, so I don't have input about that one.

  • Twisted wave will always be my go to. Incredibly stable when working with huge files and Audio Unit FX

How do you deal with it not having bpm / beat awareness? It's pretty much useless for me because of that.

  • Wavebox is handy, too.

Meow looks good, definitely happy to support a familiar dev. Only thing I’m not seeing is a way to add combine multiple files.

I was looking at Wavebox earlier. I do like the option to do portrait mode.

  • @wim yea, I just raw dog it.

The Mac version shows you the bpm, but I doubt it will ever get added to iOS.

  • +1 for wavebox
    Also auv3 fx compatible.

There is no true multitrack/multifile editing in Meow; however, you can Insert/Mix other files into the current file by just dragging / dropping them into Meow. However, this only works on iPad, not iPhone.

  • Wavebox looked interesting until I saw this reference. " you can't import files, only copy and paste"

That can't be accurate, right? If so- I wonder if you can drag and drop with CACHE into it.

With wavebox you can import audio and video files from the files app.

You can add any on-device location to its browser, play and preview the files before opening them for editing.
To me Wavebox is pretty much essential as it's one of the few apps that allow me to browse inside LogicPro's Project bundles, to export files etc.

Developer is usually pretty responsive when it comes to ideas, currently there's no snap-grid for bars/beats nor an option to set the tempo for the file being edited but considering it's the same developer who also created Dawn Beat which I would not be surprised if some of the features trickle down over to Wavebox at some point.

Doesn't hurt to get in touch with the developer and let him know about all the requests you might think of :)

Thank you for the clarification. I ended up picking up Meow. If I could ask for one thing, it would be the ability to insert/mix other files from my iPhone. Would make life infinitely easier.

Thanks! Yes, it's very much needed, I just added it to the (huge, but chronically underfunded) RoadMap!

  • @SevenSystems Make all updates IAP. I would gladly support. It’s a great app! 😎✌🏼
