Robot Butter by Christian Thompson (Released)
https://apps.apple.com/app/id6759990682
Robot Butter is a creative AUv3 audio effect for compatible hosts on iPhone, iPad, and macOS. It blends animated modulation, adaptive reverb, tempo-aware movement, and digital texture into one fast, playable interface.
On iPhone and iPad, Robot Butter also includes a standalone app for direct access to the effect and built-in manual. On macOS, the native app serves as a built-in manual companion while the plug-in runs in compatible AUv3 hosts.
At the core is the Robot engine, where Actuator, Viscosity, and Controller create the main motion and character of the signal. That signal then feeds Butter, an adaptive reverb stage designed to intelligently stay musical while responding to the effective movement of the Robot section. The result can move from focused width and pulse to washed ambience, strange motion, and unstable experimental color.
The Chipset section extends the sound with a built-in assignable LFO matrix and a post-reverb System Bus reduction stage. Run the LFO freely in Hz or lock it to musical divisions for host-synced movement, then route it to key Robot or Butter controls for evolving motion. Add System Bus for subtle grain or push it harder for sharper, crushed digital edge.
Robot Butter is designed to stay immediate. The interface gives you direct control over modulation, blend, depth, reverb shape, output mix, and motion timing without pushing you into a complicated modulation environment. A built-in user manual inside the standalone app includes overview pages, parameter explanations, quick-start guidance, glossary entries, MIDI notes, and troubleshooting help, with scrollable section pills that keep longer labels readable. Factory presets and user presets make it easy to jump from polished mix enhancement to stylized movement and aggressive sound design.
Features:
- AUv3 effect for compatible iPhone, iPad, and macOS hosts
- Robot modulation engine with Actuator, Viscosity, Controller, and gain staging
- Butter adaptive reverb with Churn, Emulsion, and Culture controls
- Built-in LFO matrix with free or tempo-synced timing
- Assignable LFO destinations across Robot and Butter parameters
- System Bus sample-rate reduction stage for animated digital texture
- Imaging modes including Mono, Wide, Ping, and Drift when stereo processing is available
- Factory presets covering vocals, guitars, bass, keys, synths, drums, utility, and experimental categories
- User preset save, recall, and delete support
- Comprehensive built-in in-app user manual with quick-start, glossary, and troubleshooting sections
- MIDI Learn, Host Learn support, and default CC mappings for hands-on control
- Optional MIDI CC broadcast for compatible host-routing workflows
- Host tempo sync with straight, dotted, and triplet divisions
Use Robot Butter for vocal movement, guitar widening, synth pulse, drum bus animation, ambient wash design, or aggressive lo-fi modulation chains. It is built to move quickly from musical enhancement to animated destruction while keeping the workflow focused and playable.

Seems intriguing but confusing to understand what this does. Checked Youtube, no demonstrations yet.
Would like to hear what it does to vocals...
Basically a kind of combo of tremolo, vibrato, sample rate reduction, maybe some delay, some stereo effects, and reverb. I do wish developers would explain their apps clearly instead of giving these kinds of mystifying descriptions. There is a glossary inside the app which explains things more, but that info should also really be available to people before they buy. Rotary knobs btw, no horizontal or vertical option...
Edit: some of the manual pages from the app are screenshotted on the AppStore pics for the app, but the most important ones - Parameters, Glossary - are not shown there. Website has a page for the app which says ‘Coming Soon’, not other info given… http://www.christiancthompson.com/robotbutter/?i=1
Ah, thx Gav
The app has a nice price, and Gav cleared up the confusion as to which does what. However, the name of the app kind of puts me off from thinking about buying it. 😂
The name is the best part as far ass I’m concerned haha, it’s a cool name
LOL! 😂
You have a problem with butter? Or is it the origin of the butter that’s the issue?
Who ever heard of butter from a robot? Wouldn't it taste like margerine? 😂
It's how baby robots are made
Sounds like it’s quite similar to the recent Osculatrix. Neat!
Sounds kinda euphemistic tbh. Robot "Butter"
Clearly there's a "spread" of opinion here.
Lol! 😂
Bruh lol!
Okay that won the thread! 😂
Nice typo, that’s definitely NOT how baby robots are made 😆
Oh god lol. As if thinking about robot butter wasn't bad enough, now I'm stuck thinking about ass butter. Yum.
I kinda hope the dev finds this thread and laughs
It’s quite a process to make.
Someone lost a finger making that butter and or the “symyfaetie laohicnhx”
Well, there used to be a 5th member of the band … 🤣
Good grief. There’s a “lubrication” and “friction” control. That’s too much.

Oh no not Raymond!

This is seriously the funniest thread in a long time. 😂
