Looking for chord generation app
Probably an easy one…
I need an auv3 app that has settings for scale, major/minor/etc.. accepts a midi note (taken as scale degree) and outputs the midi notes for the matching triad (with optional 7th, 9th, etc…)
My midi controller does this, but it doesn’t allow setup via midi (that I can find), so going for a simple app.
Comments
Scalebud
Chordjam
There’s probably others but those are the two that I own
Thanks!
Both of those look good. Any reason to choose one over the other?
Additional functionality. Chordjam comes with loads of other features (arp, strum, sequencer, etc). Scalebud is more bread n butter for what you’re looking for. I’d also say get Scalebud2 over 1
So… it turns out I own Chordjam, lol, must’ve bought it during the flurry of November sales last year. Looks like it does everything I need!
Huzzah! Lovely app, only complaint being the size of the text/font 🔎🔎🔎
happy chording! 🤙
Thanks!
Works great so far, definitely meets my needs.
I’m noticing there are no midi au input parameters exposed to loopy (and I’m assuming other au hosts)? Not a deal breaker, I can setup auv3 presets, but kind of a bummer.
Don’t sleep on Tonality if you want full on chords and music theory powered tools.
Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll be sure to check it out.
The Chordulator Mozaic script.
Another great one. Thanks!
Thanks @wim ! I will check it out.
Do Scalebud and Chordjam allow custom chords to be assigned to pads and played back manually either via the onscreen pads or midi notes from a controller or sequencer aka one-key chords? I'm pretty sure Scalebud allows this; not sure about Chordjam...is the keyboard at the bottom for assigning/triggering chords or chord sequences?
'Smart' chord generation---where the harmonically 'correct' chords are assigned--is good. But sometimes, I want to assign my own 'incorrect' chords to pads, for like House chords or techno stabs. Right now, I'm using a couple of Mosaic scripts, Drambo's "Chord" processor, and Kai Arais' kb-1 for chord memory, like on the Roland Alpha Juno and Korg PolySix hardware synths. But I want to be able to assign different chord voices/types to every key and be able to edit chords visually.
Cubasis 3's chord pads feature is perfect for me, but alas, I can no longer install it on my iPad.
chordpolypad is perfect for this use case. it's pricier than most other chord apps, but fantastically good and cross platform (mac silicon friendly)

Dont know what chordbot can do but I use it a lot.
4Pockets Progressions is another really good app for generating Chord Progressions
Drambo,
This patch has just been posted on patchstorage
https://patchstorage.com/minorkeys/
and there are other chordy patches for Drambo:

…and here’s the lot of them. Plenty to chew on

In addition to everything posted above; I’ll add:
Chord Generator - by Mario Nieto, who coincidentally, is one of the same developers that worked with AudioModern on ChordJam.
I think there are some differences between this and ChordJam, but honestly, at the moment, I couldn’t tell you what those differences are. Looking at both, they appear to be basically the same app with a different skin, but again, “I think” I remember reading that there are differences.

Another one that I’ve been messing with lately. One that kinda flew by under the radar recently:
Inky AUV3
Now this one is different, and has some pretty interesting arp features!

And thirdly, I’ll add:
Piano Motifs!
I was genuinely surprised at how feature rich the chord progression features have come in this app!
It took one of Leo’s tutorials to open my eyes to this. It’s hidden behind the “More Settings” button if there’s anyone here that hasn’t tried this yet.

Wow just watched the tutorials. What a powerhouse songwriting app.
