A confluence of interests: There Is No Antimemetics Division

“Welcome to the Antimemetics Division. No, this is not your first day.”

So I am currently listening to the absolutely terrifying warning against developing general AI, “If anyone builds it, everyone dies.” Written by top AI experts, and setting out in words of one syllable exactly why opening the door to superintelligent machines is a very, VERY bad idea. One striking observation was that a superintelligence could mess with us in ways we couldn’t even imagine, illustrating by analogy Aztec warriors confronted by Spanish colonists armed with magic sticks that could kill them at a distance just by pointing at them, and suggesting a sufficiently powerful AI might even be able to get into our minds and wreck havoc there. Which put me in mind of the SCP adjacent webzine/novel, https://amzn.eu/d/0fQEKjZS and now YouTube short movie, There Is No Antimemetics Division:

I think the attack vector described there might be one illustration of what our present society’s confrontation with a superintelligent machine might look like. Very quiet, possibly invisible. Until it is already too late.

Seriously, check out If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies. While you still can.

  • Very nice with an undercurrent of menace. A good fit for the early 21st century.

  • I was watching an interview with this writer the other day, yes I'd like to read that book.

On a similarly depressing note, I 'enjoyed' this earlier today haha:

Anyway, quality dronage and verbiage as usual Irena. You're veering into calmer territories of late. I managed not to hallucinate any drum sounds on top of this one but I did still hear a few of those vinyl clicks!

  • This is sublime. ❤️

@seawind161 @Proppa , thanks both for the listens, and your kind comments :) @Gavinski : Nothing wrong with a bit of calm, mebbe… you also need those bits in the movie before the maniac leaps out of the closet, after all ;) Thanks for giving me my next apocalisten, btw, gotta check out that guy’s book. After all, he works at what would have been my dream job: The Centre for the Study of Existential Risk. How cool is that? Bet he is fun at parties.

  • Great track… disturbing thoughts… just what we’ve come to expect 😊
