So they did it! I guess it’s just as legal as the retro game apps released in recent years. But it certainly isn’t light on the cpu 😅 My iPad Air M3 is getting very hot and at max a few notes polyphony. I’m not seeing the JP8000 in the list…

Just a few notes? Wow 😂😂

Hehe 😝 Good for some sampling though

I believe you need the ROM files. Check the list here: https://www.discodsp.com/retromulator/

Yes, I tried importing them, but the instrument doesn’t show up for me (the others do).

absolutely unusable crap … on iPhone 16 and iPad Air M1 horrible dropouts, plugin has catastrophic lag, no UI for synths .. worthless

also it’s reselling of opensource code from Usual Suspects if i correctly understand it (correct me if i am wrong) so VERY controversial.

  • if it's unacceptable for @dendy then I'm not touching it, despite the allure of having Virus C or even TI on my iPad!

the Usual Suspects plug-ins are incredible and actually got me back to using desktop after a long break. Someone posted an image of them tweaking the Usual Suspects Virus plug-in on iPad to social media recently, I believe this was a screen-sharing app reflecting their desktop.

to have this running smoothly (and be able to program, not just play presets) would be amazing. Maybe one day....

  • I'll imagine a lot of people bought this not properly having read or understood the app store blurb. I'll imagine that'll lead to a hell of a lot of refunds

This DSP reuse of Usual Suspect’s emulator code is just unusable.

I am using Usual Suspects emulators on desktop, i have roms of all thise great HW synths .. rhwy are amazing.

Oh yeah, I'm not saying you're one of the people who didn't understand Dendy, don't worry. But it was clear to me when I read the AppStore blurb and then did a bit more research, that this release would probably be a fiasco on all kinds of levels, and it sure looks to be playing out that way!

  • Surely with open source software you can do what you want including sell products built on it. Isn’t that the point?

    It depends on the license.

Not a surprise considering who put it out . The passive aggressive borderline arrogant responses from the developer when confronted with issues combined with the less than stellar history in regards to app stability and performance kind of were a perfect storm of sh*t waiting to explode

Y'all got away with a lot of discussion before I saw this thread and my alarm bells went off.

IMPORTANT: This forum must never be used in any way that can be seen to condone or encourage any use of illegally obtained ROM files or other proprietary software. Even the potential to appear so needs to be avoided.

It looks like everyone has been careful thanks to @Gavinski 's early warning. Thanks for that Gav. 😎

Sorry, but I'm going to close this just to be safe and because I don't want to have to keep an eye on every post. I may need to edit or delete a few posts too once I give it a more thorough read. Nothing personal, and no need for apologies, etc.. it's just better to err on the side of caution.

    Mike
