Thumbjam background activity draining battery?
Hello everyone.
I have attached a picture of an issue with Thumbjam.
I barely touched the iPad on weekend and It somehow used a lot of battery power.
Is this normal?
And please don't get me wrong, Thumbjam is one of the reasons I'm making music in iPad.
Thanks
Mucci

Sometimes, apps used in iaa stays active in the background. Even if you remove it from the multitask bar. Open the app in question, close it and remove it again from the multitask bar. This is what I do.
Yes, that is likely what happened. If you didn't use TJ with IAA, verify that the Power Saver option is turned on in TJ's Prefs->Options.
Didn't used TJ with IAA and the power saver option is turned on (green). Not so sure, but I think I didn't even launched any musical apps (including TJ) since last full charge over the weekend. This can't be related to the "backgroun app refresh" setting in iOs right?
What are you using to monitor battery usage?
@Tritonman2 It's an ios 8 feature. Settings/General/Usage/Battery Usage.
No, TJ doesn't use any background app refresh feature. I'll verify that the power saver feature is operating properly on iOS8. In the meantime, I recommend manually killing any audio apps after you're all done using them.
@sonosaurus Many thanks for your interest. I must specially thank you for developing one of the best apps in ios history... If it would be of any help, I'm on ipad air 2.
Last night I tried out "Pearl Guitar" for about 5 minutes. Launched it without IAA or Audiobus. This morning I see it's burned 50% of the battery overnight. This also happened a couple of weeks ago with the M3000 HD app so it's not unique to Thumbjam or indeed IAA by any means. Worrying.
Really sorry to bring this out again, but did't know what else to do. In the last 24 hours, I'm pretty sure I never launched Thumbjam, but somehow it drained all my battery again. Battery was 30% when I put my ipad in my bag this morning. I just got it out to see a full drained battery. I didn't ever launched any music related apps. I always kill apps after usage by swiping them. I even tried to delete and redownload TJ. But this problem is still present. Anyone having a similar issue?
I noticed music apps draining my battery overnight all the way to 0% while the iPad was inactive too.
I have since made sure I force quit all the music apps after I'm done.
I'm 100% sure TJ was inactive. It's a routine for me to force quit all apps after I use them, including nonmusic apps.
That is crazy! There's no way it would be running, if you never ran any music apps at all... this is a serious mystery.
I'm starting to think there's something wrong with ios and might do a restore since this ipad is still pretty new and doesn't have much inside. Because its so funny its only me.
Make sure background refresh is off
I had some issues last week with my iPad draining while it was sleeping and in my bag, as well as not charging correctly one day. I thought my case was wearing out and maybe the screen was staying on since I had it set to never auto lock. But, it wasn't on. I thought maybe something funky was going on with iOS. Who knows? Seems to be better now although the battery does seem to be draining faster than it once did. I turned off background refresh and set auto lock to 10 minutes, that may have helped too.
It does seem like lately the bloom is coming off the apple rose. Unfortunately it's still the best for music work, especially on mobile. We'll see.
Do a hard reboot. The easiest way to tell if any IAA app is still draining on you, even when you "quit out" (IF it supports Core MIDI) is to launch any other CM compliant app. In that app's MIDI settings, you'll see the culprit app in the connection options. I saw Thumbjam listed in my Xynthesizr MIDI settings, though I had quit out of Thumbjam days earlier. There's your smoking gun. When I did a hard reboot, it came off the list.
I was curious if any of the utility apps would work for identifying IAA lurkers. I assume so, but I don't know which might be the best at that sort of thing. Anyone have any suggestions?
Again, whatever is milking will show up under battery usage. A hard reboot is the simple, foolproof way to dislodge it. And on most, more recent devices, this takes all of 15 seconds.
Thanks @The_Unflattered.
Got this problem with more IAA apps.Just restart the app and close again from the multitask bar. This is one of the reasons i try to avoid IAA and use audiobus much as possible.IAA is still full of bugs.
