Look at that ui! First @Rob_Jackson_Music hit’s us with knobs in A8, now Cem’s hitting us with a new crème ui! It feels like the world is changing….

The strumming sounds great with steel guitar pro!

Maybe the world is changing for the better, at least in terms of UI for our virtual music gear. 😅

  • One of the things i failed to show was the extensive controls the presets give you over the ui/controller- I'll show it in my next video. It's pretty wild.

    Sweet!

    Strum app?!? Count me in!!

  • A bit static and lifeless, no?

I can't hold in my thought on what you say on RJ's UI's (and thus UX) and I deeply despise them, but, his apps sounds so good I can live with it. So much for a better world 😂

Look at this one.. maxed all the available note variations for the default chords on my Iphone and there is so much going on in this keyboard. Two octaves per key, arp, strummng and repeating. Super cool.

205 chords on an iPhone screen!

  • How do you get the chords, does it come with them?

  • Yeah the keyboard is all chords. It’s a chord keyboard with all 7 degrees and variations that you can commit or omit to the User Interface. You adjust the available chords via the settings.

    Really enjoying this controller!

    Additional details:

One of the things it doesn't mention is the ability to glide across the keys- it's sounds fantastic. It might be the easiest way to call up the harmonic chord progressions without using a midi controller.

I use the additional midi out to record into takeamidi and build parts that way.

  • That “harmony aware” stuff seems like it will be great for a music theory dunce like myself

It really helps.. this is why I like Cem's midi stuff so much- it really tiers between learning and functionality. I remember when starting, variations seemed like something I would never remember, after playing so long in StepBud it all started clicking- a lot less dissonance and a lot more frisson.

There's some great documentaries on symmetry and harmony on neurology and an area that I found highly interesting. Neuorlogists right now can "map" a user experience based on the symmetry/harmony of tones- the more harmonic the more dopamine. I'm all about the dope(amine).

tldr: harmony induces neurogenic excitation of the mu opiate receptors.

  • Another example of the ways you can use the controller

  • Hey everyone, I’m back with a new MIDI Bud app after a long while.

HouseBud is a MIDI chord pad app where I reimagined the chord pad concept and put multiple octaves on a pad, which you can layer or alternate, and turned out great!

    • The mental model is, you have a chord progression from left to right (columns)
    • Each column has alternative chord types (triads, 7ths, suspended etc)
    • Each pad has multiple octaves (can be triggered independently)
    • Transpose to any key/scale realtime
    • The harmony engine builds the surface with the pleasant voicing and inversions
    • Choose a preset or build your own surface easily
    • Or just generate a random one and start playing immediately
    • Real time MIDI FXs for chord repeat, arp and strum with realtime speed adjustment
    • Record the pads into MIDI and play them back, or trigger them with a sequencer

I’m super happy with the app and I think layering the octaves is a real innovation on the chord pads. The randomizer feature is really good for kickstarting an idea very fast. Can’t wait to hear back from you, let me know if you’d like to beta test. The HarmonyEngine is open sourced on my github btw if you’d like to build or vibecode something cool 🙂

Here’s a quick demo with the beautiful new AudioKit Retro Keys:

  • Here is the randomization featuring a harp soundfont via Fontstack(not shown)

  • @cem_olcay

Is this an Easter egg? Literally thought I was having flashbacks.

Take a close look at the chords…. Trippy. :p

Also, u can see the missing randomizer on the iPad here. Shows up properly on iphone

What is your ipad’s ios version, maybe it doesn’t support the wand icon (it’s a system icon), I need to check it out.

And yes, the pads are moving very slightly, I took it straight from Balatro lol
It looks like more obvious with the smaller pads.

    iPad 17.6.1

    iPhone is using 18 something

I’ve been trying to figure out how to get 18 on my device, but the only option it allows me is 26.4.2

I dig the trippy pad movement, reminded me of good times, good music.

I still have the preset error when trying to save under User Presets.

You were 💯, although the wand isn’t visible - the randomizer functionality is still there and works great. I just needed to try and tap on the area where the wand would be.

    Thank You!

This looks brilliant @cem_olcay ! I'd be very interested in beta testing if that's still open?

Yes, I think I fixed the bug. I used a 'newer' version of the icon

Sure, DM me your email address 👍

Eager to hear your thoughts. I've run thru all my AU instruments in it and surprised at the sounds I was sitting on because I couldn't physically or mentally grasp the progressions. It's easily my favorite chord pad. I have more videos on my channels- I didn't wanna overwhelm the board- but man- this is quickly becoming my default midi AU.
