Strange - Chaos Distortion by Stephan Bolch (Released)
https://apps.apple.com/app/id6764288172
STRANGE replaces the static waveshaper with living mathematics. Feed your signal into Lorenz and Logistic chaos systems — attractors that never repeat — and get distortion that breathes, shifts, and evolves.
Drive the chaos harder and it warps deeper. Pull back and it colors. The curve is never the same twice.
— DRIVE —
How deep your signal enters the chaos system. From subtle coloring to full saturation.
— CHAOS —
Adjusts the density and intensity of the chaotic attractor. Turn it up for wild, unpredictable distortion.
— FEEDBACK —
Routes the output back into the chaos system. Adds resonance and self-oscillating character.
— MODES —
Four distortion characters: Fold (wavefolding), Shatter (quantized scatter), Warp (domain warp), Glitch (block displacement).
— TONE —
Post-distortion tonal shaping. Sculpt the frequency content after the chaos.
— MIX —
Dry/wet blend. Full wet for pure chaos, blended back for parallel processing.
— OUTPUT —
Final output level. Compensate for the gain added by drive and feedback.
— AUv3 PLUGIN —
Run STRANGE inside AUM, ApeMatrix, Audiobus, or any AUv3 host. Multiple instances, each with independent settings.
— WORKS ON —
iPhone and iPad, all modern screen sizes.
Details:
Universal: Yes
Minimum OS version: 14.0

Quite nice this one too!
You can absolutely BREAK a signal with this app. Audio drop outs, strange chirping overtones, grunge, grit, to the most subtle mix of grain…
20/20 would buy again
You've tried both. Would u have a preference?
Thnx for sharing your thoughts guys!
Description for Drift sounded interesting so I scooped that one (can’t be mad at the price either). Confirmed that it indeed sounds nice on drums. Pretty gnarly as a guitar drive/distortion too. The “drift” aspect is a bit more subtle than I expected (it’s almost a tamer version of audiodamage Grind) but I’m happy to have added it to the collection. Might get Strange as well, see how it compares.
Any sound demos on these? Drift or Strange?
They don’t overlap. I like both. Def Drift if i had to choose one. With the Feedback up, it also creates a space. I really like both. I just subscribed to your Patreon for a month. Use the money to buy both. It’s on me!
And I did it through the website, not the app
yep - both are really good - I can confirm:)
and I'm intrigued by yet another - on the pipe:
WRECK:)

Ah is that you, cool! I already bought both and have a walkthrough on them up on Patreon haha, enjoy!
Coooool. Reminds me of SoundSaw. This guy makes interesting stuff. Gonna look further into this SKIIID…
I agree, I like both. I preferred Strange initially, but Drift quickly grew on me with the right input material.
I like this trend back towards prices of ten years ago, of releases like these and Waveblender. Tbh, given the vibe-coded app tsunami, I think it's the only realistic way forward for many of these new apps. Make them instabuy price.
You won’t be disappointed with SKIID . Gav also has a video on how to dial in sounds
A test with distorted guitar.

Setting it up like this (image) with all to 50 as a starter and then automate a few was fun and gritty as hell. I tried it in C3 first but there I couldn't find a way to save internally, strange. In AUM I could save (again, internally) though.
I found several problems with both of these btw.
Anyone else? I reported these, no word back yet.
@Gavinski same here. 😎✌🏼
Updated already, fast response and thanks for reporting G.
Yeah thanks Gav. That updated fixed it for me. I assume he’s working on the same fix for Drift.
Cheers guys, yes he just got back to me and told me that the Drift update is still awaiting Apple approval.
Quick update — all three distortion plugins are now live on the App Store:
STRANGE: apps.apple.com/app/id6764288172
DRIFT: apps.apple.com/app/id6766505130
WRECK: apps.apple.com/app/id6766505851
All three just got an update too:
DRIFT is saturation with a wandering transfer curve — the distortion character slowly evolves over time. Built-in delay with feedback.
WRECK is a bitcrusher, sample rate destroyer, and wavecycle mangler. Five quantization modes, three dither types, five cycle modes.
Happy to answer any questions.
Sounds great, great feature set, but please test these apps better before releasing them. Sometimes when I open the AUv3 there is just no audio at all, totally unusable.
Presets sometimes play back silent, or don’t play back sounding anything similar to the way they were saved, even on the same input.
I think the above might at least partly be due to the plugin not handling the switch between ipad speakers/airpods/interfaces correctly. It should, of course, be able to handle these kind of changes.
Have also had some crashes in AUM - tweaked a slider, Wreck instance crashed immediately, taking another separate instance of Wreck with it.
More robust pre-release testing, please.
Thanks @Gavinski for reporting this 👍 - I’ll be buying all 3 once these initial bugs get fixed..
These are fun. A bit like the Zolotov "Relic" series, but for effects.
Something I appreciate: It's quite possible to achieve extreme volume spikes with no-input Strange. Reminds me of the Jomox T-Resonator in this regard. A limiter after this is a good idea. It's nice to have a device that can be pushed well beyond what's polite.
Hey everyone — quick update on all three plugins.
New versions are live on the App Store (Strange 1.0.3, Drift 1.0.5, Wreck 1.0.1):
@Gavinski — thanks for the detailed reports, both of those are directly addressed in this update. Let me know if anything is still off.
@suboptimal — glad you're enjoying the extremes. The Jomox T-Resonator comparison is a compliment I'll take. A limiter after these is definitely not a bad idea.
Going forward I want to run longer beta tests before releasing updates and new features. If anyone here wants to be part of that via TestFlight, just drop me a message through https://all-the-machines.com/contact/ and I'll add you.
Cool. I like your ios offerings. I just sent you a message from there. How would i know? Keep an eye in my email inbox?
Edit: deleted, dumb question it was.
@AllTheMachines thnx for fixing it, cheers
Quick update: STRANGE, DRIFT, and WRECK are now all available on desktop as well -- VST3, AU, and CLAP on Mac (Apple Silicon + Intel), VST3 + CLAP on Windows.
Same DSP, same controls, same sound. If you've been using the iOS versions and wanted them in your desktop DAW, they're ready.
STRANGE: https://all-the-machines.com/products/strange/
DRIFT: https://all-the-machines.com/products/drift/
WRECK: https://all-the-machines.com/products/wreck/
Bundle: https://all-the-machines.com/products/distortion-bundle-desktop/
iOS versions are still available and actively maintained. Thanks for all the support on the iOS side -- the desktop versions exist because enough of you asked for them.
Would these work well as guitar distortions? I grabbed them and can’t seem to get anything from them that doesn’t sound like Velcro or nothing at all.
