GeoShred / Loopy Pro: Record MIDI-MPE loop with instrument A, play it back with B?

Is it sensible to record an MIDI loop with MPE from GeoShred (configured with a GS instance as it's MIDI source, and that same instance as its AU destination) with GS using, say, GeoSax. And then playback that loop with GS using, say, GeoCello? I'm getting strange results and don't understand if I'm doing something wrong.

    Is the playback correct if controlling the same instrument preset used when making the recording?

    Lol, no it's not. The very first time playback sounds right, then successively deteriorates: notes muffled, dropped, and the crisp midi-markers on the loop get scribbled over. The Green MIDI loop sits between the 2 GSs. (And now that I look at it, the other MIDI loop between my external keyboard and PurePiano AU also looks like some data started spraying over it!)

    I did turn Off Monitor-Through and TakeOver on the destination link from GS[Midi] to the Midi Loop.

  • And now The GeoShred instances in LP show the crashed "The audio unit has crashed" icon, and Reloading it does not fix it. Restarting iPad does not fix it. Ouch!

    @moforte - any ideas?

    What if you delete the GeoShred instance save and then add a new instance?

    Do you have any midi quantization turned on?

  • @des1303 ig is working for me. I record some tenor sax then switch to cello. Apologies for the awful noises.

    That is probably a MIDI feedback loop. You know, the GeoShred plugin is both an audio plugin and a MIDI... ... plugin. It might make more sense to create one instance of GeoShred the MIDI plugin have that send MPE MIDI to a second instance GeoShred, the audio plugin.

    I'll admit I'm not that familiar with Loopy Pro, but I do this in AUM all the time.

    How he has it set up is fine as long as he has monitor through off on the midi colour destination as he says that is the normal way to set things up for this -- that is how I have it set up in the video I posted.

    @des1303 : it is critical that monitor through is off. Can you make a screen recording where you VERY SLOWLY show the routing details and the MIDI colour destination setup then show us the issue? Then upload the screen recording and post a link to it here.

    Thank you, all. @espiegel123 I have written it off as operator error. I could have sworn I was careful to disable Monitor & Takeover, as you had pointed that out to me previously. But only operator error explains it. Sigh.

    p.s. The crashed LP project did not revive with deleting and re-creating the GeoShred instance. I don't remember my Midi quantization. I've since deleted that project.
