I've made good use of Auxy with MIDI out and the detailed note editing function (another IAP at $2.99) as a beta tester. And I opted for both IAPs today (how could I not? Uh....never mind).
Anyway...here's some things that worked with Auxy as a live midi controller: (I have not doubled checked since beta).
External midi keyboard -Yamaha mm6 (via iStudio interface).
Apps: Oriental Strings, Korg: Module, iSem, Magellan, Laplace, FM4, Sunrizer, iFretless (both Sax and Brass).
Trouble getting Alchemy going but did it once...still not sure what's up with that. A couple others apps didn't work...DM1 and something else...arrrr, me memory failed me now.
Is there a way to change the first column to something other than drums? A bit useless using synth in this column because you can't change the note length or key.
Alternatively, does anyone know of an iOS drum synth that will receive MIDI notes?
Drumjam does, had it sequenced with mid sequencer, but it's not your standard layout, if I remember correctly.
:-( damn, it is pricey midi
10€... I think I will resist. Too many other apps cover that ground. I still like its simplicity.
Just had a drum jam with...Drumjam controlled via Auxy: worked fine. I loaded a couple of different standard types kits in Drumjam and it mapped okay...some adjustment needed here and there. Still can't get DM1 to go, it's sees Auxy but I get no response.
So, I also just upped for the IAPs. Hoping that getting MIDI Out would include Background operation. Unfortunately, not, which means I cannot tweak synth patches while Auxy is playing because it doesnt.
BIG #fail.
@dwarman - you should be able to.
For me (Air 1 iOS 7.1) background audio in Auxy worked when midi out was 'engaged' (ie I was sending midi to Gadget). As soon as I switched all tracks in Auxy to be internal, then strangely Auxy ceased to be 'background audio' - which I thought was a bit strange.
But you should be able to tweak synth apps while Auxy drives them in the background.
Update: if you select an actual MIDI destination it does perform in background. But not if you want to use its Virtual MIDI Output in MidiBridge or MidiFlow for a graphically managed workflow.
Correct, if you select a MIDI destination we turn on background audio automatically.
We just added a "Auxy out" virtual endpoint that will solve the problem with DM1 etc. that doesn't allow other apps to connect to their MIDI endpoints. Will submit a smaller update soon so stay tuned.
+infinity to lenberg for handling that so quickly!
