Sorry, I completely misread it before. Yes, that makes sense but I’ve also included Pause in the new build (not sure which version you’re using). So, whether you choose Record or Append, you’ll see both Pause and Stop.
That works I guess. Although, to be honest a pause button for the append is no different to a stop button. It really just creates an extra step when appending. So I might "Record", "Append" Pause, Append Pause, Stop..
Alternatively it could just be "Record", "Append" Stop, Append Stop. There is no Pause needed for append. What would be the point.
iCloud syncing is important to me too. The lack of it is my biggest frustration with AudioShare.
How does Gain/Normalize Preview work? I hear nothing after hitting one of the Preview buttons and moving the sliders won't change the waveform.
After closing Gain/Normalize, while still in Edit view, APPEND and RECORD don't work.
After opening the app, I see a recording buffer captured and displayed instantly. I can stop and continue capture by tapping on the waveform but what to do with the buffer when I want to keep it? Hitting RECORD will delete it, I cannot drag the buffer down into the list of waveforms and I see no button that would let me save it.
Also, there's something wrong with handling sample rates. Try connecting a BT headset (try Stereo vs handsfree mode), record, then disconnect it, then play a few recordings with different sample rates. I had a recording at 48kHz shown and played as if it had 16kHz sample rate, with low pitch.
About recordings and folders:
I can create a folder (which is great!) but I can neither drag a recording up or down to change its position in the list, nor can I drag a file into a folder. Long-tapping on a recording enables kind of a file manager mode but it still doesn't let me drag it - sometimes I'd prefer the long-tap to let me drag around recordings on the list directly, to keep my best takes on top.
On iPhone in portrait view, enabling Stereo in Audio Settings made the popup wider than the screen width. Rotating to landscape and back fixed the width but cut the popup at the bottom, with no way to scroll down.
Switching back to Omni or Cardioid didn't remove the second microphone input.
I'd try to be more clear about which of the 3 microphones are used in which way, but that's just my personal taste.
Oh and btw, hitting "Test" in Audio Settings does nothing, and I cannot select Measurement mode.
In preview you hear the effect applied, but the waveform won't change unless you "apply".
I will remove Append and Record in Edit mode in favor of better navigation options.
You hold and swipe up on the record button to record the pre-roll buffer.
Ok that's odd, I'll have a look.
You can swipe left on a recording and click on the "share" button, then Move to, and choose destination.
You can also tap and hold on a recording to enable multi-selection and then use the share button (next to the trash can) to move multiple recordings.
I'm trying to tidy up the different audio settings available, not all iPhones seem to have the same patterns etc...
Auto-selecting input based on pattern/mic crashed many older iPhones...

I've been using it for a few days and haven't found big issues.
In playlist mode the date ends up on top of the handle to drag the file up and down the list but it doesn't affect functionality.
What about an automatic playlist with all recordings? It is handy for when one wants to listen but is too lazy to add to or create new playlists.
It takes double tap to get into a playlist but single tap doesn't do anything ??
I like by the way that files are played one after the other without user interaction.
I don't see a way to change sample rate. Is it lock to 48.0 kHz? I guess people will use different settings? I'm happy with 16-bit/48 kHz because that's what the Intellijel Multigrain wants.
Conversion to other formats would also be great to have.

Thanks I'll fix this. I will definitely expand the playlist features, but right now the focus in on the actual "recorder" side
single tap just selects the playlist so you can add photo/note to it.
As far as I understand, the sample rate is dictated by the device connected (or the default internal 48kHz). I couldn't find any way to force a different sample rate.
@audiothing, apologies if this has already been reported, but applying a pitch change to a clip doesn’t seem to work properly for me.
The preview pitch seems to be different to the pitch when applied and when the setting is applied it seems to add a loud click at the end of the clip (which isn’t present when previewed).

The audio settings seems a bit buggy. It shows as the input: iPhone microphone. Tapping on the tick box shows two options - left and right? Selecting one of those then shows the selection of bottom, front, back and the pattern.
I’m trying to keep it as back microphone stereo recording but tapping “save default settings” is not making it persistent when I restart the app.
What device are you using? Left/Right (in grey) are the default values without checking the actual configuration.

@audiothing, is the noise reduction using some sort of AI type thing to analyse the signal?
Any tips for how to get best results from it? Select a section of silence to use for the analysis (like Brusfri) or is it best to let it use the whole clip?
Is there any functionality to the profile graph or is it just eye candy?
@audiothing At first I have to say Thank You for all the incredible tools you provide for the iPad and also for the courage to develop those non mainstream, but wonderful plugins you did with Hainbach.
Now back to topic:
After using the beta of Fields for a couple of hours today, which I really enjoyed, one thing is missing. Since I (and I‘m not the only one) use an M/S stereo microphone, an integrated Mid/Side decoder would a huge benefit. Of course only for monitoring, the two channels from the microphone should be untouched “on tape”.

No AI at all. It's a plain and simple spectral denoiser. Think iZotope RX for example.
The idea is that you select an area where there's just noise, you learn the noise profile (the graphs can help you understand what's going on in the noise) and then you remove it from the whole file (or from where you need it). I'm experimenting with different algorithms, but they are all spectral/FFT based.
Ah that's very interesting. So an option to just playback a "stereo" file as mid+side instead?

Super clean and straightforward, very useful.
Two ideas:
1. Enable recording from a iOS Home Screen widget/control.
2. Some sort of optimized impulse response capture. You could load (or generate) a short impulse or sweep file, and it would create the IR file to be used in IR loaders. Totally different app maybe but kind of fits in with the idea of capturing the whole field

No, the opposite (if I understand you right). The microphone delivers two channels, channel one is the mid, channel two the side signal. This is what we want to bring “to tape”. But for monitoring and playback this should be converted to stereo.
I second the impulse response capture request, that would be amazing. Only one app I know of offers this, Outsidify ( https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/outsidify/id6466588903 ), but I’ve been waiting for it to go on sale without any luck forever!
@audiothing Love this already, can't wait to grab it in the app store. One issue: Toggling input bypass appears to stop the rolling buffer and waveform display. My expectation is that toggling input back to "on" would restart the buffer and display.
That would be cool, I'm actually working on a proper deconvolver, but I don't think it would fit the scope of Fields.
Stereo recording is indeed possible, but it depends on the Mic and Pattern selected. For example on my iPhone 16 pro I can set Front to Stereo and Back to Stereo. If only one input is present, try removing it and re-adding it again.
