Happy International Synthesizer Day 2026 (Ambient in Koala Sampler)

Decided to create a piece of Ambient in honor of International Synth Day, aka Robert Moog's birthday! And as a bonus, all the sounds I sampled in Koala are various synth patches from Model D and Mariana.

The process I did this time was set the BPM to 40 (the lowest it goes in Koala Sampler standalone) and used the sequencer to play all sounds at once, with the chance for the bass drone set to 70%, and the chance on everything else set to 50%. Did this for 10 instances in the sequencer if I recall correctly, each being 8 bars long.

I ran everything through FAC Alteza and mastered it in Cubasis with my usual suspects of Bark Filter Tripleband, Cubasis' Brickwall set to -1dB, and Youlean's Loudness Meter to get the levels where I wanted them.

Please enjoy, and happy Synth Day everyone!

  • I didn't realize today was International synth day. Anyway, great track as a tribute. That's what I call wall to wall sound.

Thanks, my good friend. I enjoyed creating this piece, from sampling long notes from Mariana and Model D, to setting up the loop points and crossfades for said loops, to programming the sequencer to play them back randomly. I lowkey love messing with chance parameters when appropriate for the project. ☺️

  • Quite satisfying. Well done, sir!

    Thank you, my friend. :)

  • I should have known about that national synthesizer day, then I would have made a track. But judging by what I hear, that wasn't necessary, you put together a worthy song for this day. Well done Jim! frenq

Thank you so much, mate. ☺️

  • Awesome one, mate. Loved it a lot. Gonna take a listen again
And thanks for sharing your workflow. Never tried ambient on koala and been sleeping on the new (and not so new) features for a year already

Lol. Thanks mate. :) Well, I think you should definitely dig into Koala Sampler again. The only thing it needs is some sort of automation, but honestly? It's fine now the way it is. Being able to resample AUv3 plugins (whether a oneshot note, a melodic phrase, etc) is a godsend and the true definition of "game changier". 😂

  • I was at the parade! I was wearing my Moog Modular costume. It was really heavy and I had to sit down a few times. Also, I was constantly tripping over the wires. Next year I will wear something digital.

    Lol!
