iFretless

edited December 2014 in General App Discussion

What are the opinions on these apps? How's the connectivity? Do they ever do sales?
I'm especially interested in the bass app so I can play bass when I'm away from my bass. :)

  • IFretless Bass is considered by many (most?) to be the best bass guitar sim on iOS. I would definitely recommend.

I've never seen a sale, but they do offer several app bundles.

  • I use iFretless Guitar and would say its expressiveness is "almost" equal to that of ThmbJam, albeit different. Connectivity Audiobus and MIDI is great. Sound is great - the samples are many and of high quality and account for (I'm surmising) the apps large file size. In addition to traditional "guitar" or "base" sounds both acoustic and electric there are synth versions of these instruments as well.

Never, have I ever seen a sale, even on launch.

  • I would recommend thumbjam if the case was sample quality. On the other hand this offers a reasonable variety of basses and serves as a midi controller.

  • How about the horn packs, are they any good? I'm thinking of getting the guitar and bass set, but not so sure about the horns.

  • Ifretless bass is most realistic bass sound on ios, ifretless brass also very good

  • No more opinions? I think I'll just get the bass/guitar pack if no one else has an opinion on the brass.

  • I have the brass one. I think its a great app but I honestly haven't spent enough time with it to really know if its truly great or not. The Bass has been the bass track to nearly every song I've made on iOS. its only rivaled by thumbjam in its expressiveness as mentioned.

  • Does anyone use iFretless Bass (or the other fretless apps) with iPad2 on iOS7? They recommend iPad3 but still state it's compatible with 'ipad'. I wouldn't be doing anything fancy with it such as controlling other apps via MIDI, just recording it via AB into Garageband.

Really like these apps, particularly as I'm a guitarist, but worried they'll crash and burn on my iPad2.

  • Actually, iFretless Bass launched at 1 buck, and had prices like 3,5 or 7 dollars.
iFretless Guitar was launched free (when I got it :D), went to 5, than to regular price at 10.

Sax and Brass had no sales whatsoever :(

  • @monzo i have brass and bass and they are both stable on ipad2 on ios7.1.2
You can record them in to a DAW fine but you are prob not going to be able to run much else at same time without hitting cpu issues

Thanks for the confirmation :) That'd be fine, the bass sounds good on its own so I'd record that straight into GarageBand via AB. I'd probably want to use some effects on the guitar version though, so that'll have to wait until I upgrade my iPad.

That's interesting, maybe I'll hold fire for a few weeks just in case there's an Xmas sale.....

  • I paid full price for both, started with iFretless Bass and liked it so much added on Guitar. Both have full time places on my iPad despite their size, as long as they are working in my current iOS version. I typically play them direct, their playability on the iPad is the main draw for me.
