Rangiin - AUv3 Physical Modeling Synth - South Asian String Instruments

As far as I know, this is out today.
I think it may still be populating different parts of the App Store

Anyway, it's a physically modeled Sitar, and also some other South Asian instruments.

  • Well that was about 5 minutes between demo and unlock! Terrific instrument.

  • I've been in the beta test, and this app is one of my favorite ways to lose an hour. It just FEELS right while sounding really organic and beautiful.

This looks very interesting. What does the unlock / Pro Version unlock?

Edit: Ah, found it! Unlocks the other instruments! This is very tempting indeed.

  • Gotta say I definitely prefer playing the Naada instruments in Geoshred. Different price point I know, but they sound better in general to me, and fully mpe.

You mean the collection currently listed at $259 (and no way to try before buying)?

As I said 'different price point but'...

Great googly moogly! and I felt bad paying $30 for that Hammond… haha

The controller in this Rangiin is so damn ingenious and playable. Best setup I’ve seen in a while. Would love to see this dev take a crack at the harp. Or a dobro. Or harmonium. Or! OR!

Before this gets out of hand lol, those Naada instruments are normally 15 bucks for 1 and 10 bucks on sale, it's not excessive. Anyway, I think my pointing out that that Geoshred instruments sound better is useful info, but do with it what yall will!

I’m not really tempted by this one due to having GeoShred. You can build a decent little collection in GS if you select just a few individual instruments you need. That’s how I started, and now I have the whole collection because they were so good.

  • Also, I keep reading the app as Ranglin - Southern Strings and it makes me think it’s going to be cowboy centric stringed instruments.

  • This sounds real nice, and great playability. Have to test it further but 10€ to unlock seems pretty reasonable for what seems like a work of love and a great expressive ui.
I never knew I could play the sitar all along, after all these years!
Plays nice with drambo as well (just did a quick test on phone)

  • Now do the tablas 😅

  • I really like the sounds this produces but not a fan of learning another playing interface.
Tried it on TestFlight with GeoShred and it crashed out 50% of the time and just produced odd notes the rest.
Messaged the developer, sent crash logs but didn’t hear anything back.
It seems an ideal candidate for playing with MPE but this doesn’t seem possible so unfortunately I’ll 🦆 this one.

I play it with my MPE controller (Instrument 1) and it sounds ace. Haven't tried with GS.

  • This sounds beautiful! The main interface is nicely done but I prefer to play with my Nektar keyboard and it works great with that; sliding between notes, etc. I'll have to unlock the other instruments for sure.

  • Just to say that the developer Sadjad has been really helpful and as of the latest update this works really well with GeoShred… no crashes and pitch bend is fine.
In GS I’m using the ‘MIDI Out Control’ preset with Play Mode set to Mono.

  • How does this compare to GeoShred instruments for sound?

  • I’m no expert @FizzyLizzy27 , especially in knowing what the real instruments sound like.
I’ve only had Rangiin for a day but I really like it. It’s a bit smoother sounding than the equivalent Naada instruments, to me it sounds less processed, more natural. Naada is a bit harsher and in your face. Naada has a few more options and is fully polyphonic. Rangiin is monophonic but could probably be made poly by having multiple instances / channels etc… needs a bit of experimentation 🔬 The drones and sympathetic strings in Rangiin are done well but again I need to dig deeper into that.
    Here’s a quick demo I’ve thrown together…

  • very inspirational, @GeoTony. Thank you.

  • in GeoShred, what settings do you use? MIDI out preset, but when I then set to mono mode, the field above is red. In your settings it is yellow.
