iPad Air M2 13" Vs iPad Pro M1 12.9" - which one if any in 2026?
Hey guys and gals,
I'm new in the forum, but not new to loopy.
I was supposed to make the switch from rc600 + Helix floor to Loopy +plugins last year, but didn't.
Now it's happening, I've already sold my Helix floor, and plan on selling the rc600 as soon as I have a loopy rig setup.
My problem now is deciding what iPad to buy!
My indecision is between the iPad Air M2 13" Vs iPad Pro M1 12.9".
I'm looking at big screens because I intend to manipulate fx on the screen.
My biggest worry is heat management, because I live in Portugal and summers here can be super hot!
Is there anyone using the m2 air 13" for processing guitar and vocals with loopy? would you buy it again today or would you go for the pro, even if with a lower chip ?
Thank you so much!

I have an iPad Pro M1 12.9" that I've been using for several years now. While I don't work with vocals or loopy, I do make projects in AUM with 20+ channels of plugins (multiple instances of koala and midi routed to auv3s), automation, multiple buses, etc. and rarely get the DSP above around 50%. I've noticed that once I get above around 55% there tend to be some crackles and pops...but there are always way to get creative and minimize that by baking in effects etc.
My iPad pro does get warm but it’s never been crazy hot unless I’m trying to use it outside in direct sunlight.
IMO you can’t go wrong with either, with the pro you get a better screen and better speakers IIRC. If those aren’t differentiators for you then I’d personally lean towards the newer device with the newer processor.
I have ipad pro m1 11", spent a whole summer in southern africa with it weekly gigging hour and two hour loopy pro sets, yes it gets hot but not to the extent that i had any actual issues, in 30 degree C days and nights. that said, check out the disccussion on cooling on the discord where people are pretty serious on that
