Realtime audio file stream in VST host
This is a bit off the main rails of this group, for which I apologize, but you folks are my best knowledge hive.
So here's what I want to do: play audio files directly from disk and process them. What I mean is, play an mp3, or a flac, or an opus, or whatever, just as I would in winamp or some other standalone player, but then run that through a VST for processing it before it hits my headphones. I know I could just load the file into Reaper, but I want to skip that step.
This would require only a simple VST host, not necessarily a full DAW. And I've seen a couple of plugins that look like they do something along these lines, but it's all a bit vague. vPlayer seems promising?
And oh yes, this has to work on Windows.
Does anyone have specific knowledge on this?
Thanks as always for any brainpower applied.

Several years ago I used OBS to do this on a project. Nice thing was I could process and record any sound playing back on my computer. So I could play youtube and mangle it etc. Was quite nice. Been a while though and I don't recall exactly how BUT it was free so you could give it a whirl.
Also, if you post stuff like this in Desktop you may get more eyes as Other doesn't show up in the main feed. It is mainly for complaining, trolling etc.
Open Broadcaster? Huh... I would never have considered that. Thank you.
And I'll bear the post grouping in mind. I guess I just missed Desktop entirely.
