Ambiotica - ambient looper / delay / granular / reverb / space effect

I'm working on a new AUv3 effect, called Ambiotica. It's an ambient looper / granular delay / chorded reverb that adds a space-y, star-y feeling to any input.

https://testflight.apple.com/join/rFqg6Vna

Controls:

  • Orbit: main tempo-synced looper length/level
  • Constellate: granular grain length and pitch spread
  • Satellite: secondary microlooper / freeze
  • Tail: reverb decay

Global mods:

  • Flux: movement that controls pitch modulation and reverb feeding back into grains
  • Spectra: resonator bank providing a tuned reverb wash based on the configured key

Universal macro:

  • Gravity: global macro that pulls everything into outer space

It's very much still in the "figuring out what works" phase, but feedback is always welcome!

I like it. The concept is great, love the visuals.

    A couple feedback items:

    1. Needs drop down menus for presets, key, and scale. Clicking through arrows is tedious.
    2. Maybe I’m misunderstanding how some of the settings work, but it seemed like the longer it ran, everything just built and layered infinitely. It didn’t seem like there was any sort of decay, so it just grew in volume constantly.
    3. The visuals are a little cluttered and chaotic. The central orb looks like you should be able to tap on it to do something. I’d consider simplifying a bit for usability (and I’m sure it would help with CPU too.
    4. Speaking of CPU, my phone did immediately start to feel warmer. There have been some recent comments on other posts about how to optimize CPU. I’d look into that.

Overall, very excited considering this appears to be a very early version. Assuming it gets properly refined and polished, it will likely become a staple for me.

  • Thanks, all on the list! Except the central orb. It is an orb of mystery.

  • My first impression is that the constant blinking is quite annoying. Something more subtle, pulsing and more muted would be appreciated. Otherwise I look forward to playing around with it more.

  • Requirements are rather high, would get more involvement if you made it compatible w/18.x imo

  • Pretty cool!

  • I was looking for a video demo but got an ai overview instead...."AI Overview Ambiotica is a versatile iOS/macOS audio effects plugin designed by the creator of Loopy Pro as an ambient looper, granular delay, and chorded reverb. It specializes in transforming standard input into rich, spacey, and star-like soundscapes." .... what have you done with Michael...??? ;-)

  • Sounds good on my iPhone. But my iPad Pro 10.5 ( yes I need to upgrade) is stuck on 17.7.? So I’ll never be able to try it in iPad for now unless they lower the requirements

  • I get some pops and clicks, which seem unrelated to CPU usage, which is low.

I also wish the controls had less abstract names.

However, it sounds really nice most of the time, I’m quite interested in watching this develop.

  • Just pushed a new build, with some updates:

    • Reduced minimum iOS version to 15.0
    • Lower decay for Spectra and Flux to prevent runaway feedback
    • Increased Constellate volume at low levels to raise grain legibility
    • Added dropdowns for chord and preset selection
    • Optimized rendering (lower-res animated layer + caching) and capped to 30 fps — together cutting GUI CPU by roughly ⅔
    • Reduced pulsing animations overall
    • Added "reduced motion" option to eliminate animations freeing up that CPU when needed

And, here's a short demo on just a simple loop.

  • Thanks!!

  • Only tried this in Ableton on Mac so far but works really well there…

    Using the Mac TestFlight?

Yes, I just had a peek in case it was enabled and then kinda haven’t stopped troubling it with my guitar since. Need to do some work but it’s too lush to leave alone😅

  • @Krupa Yeah, I'm not sure how "useful" this effect will be but it sure is fun to play.

  • Tried the update, great stuff. Really digging it. Did a quick little jam while I was waiting for my wife’s oil change.

Checking on the Mac version and just saw it's for Apple Silicon only...I guess I need to upgrade my ancient iMac sometime...

  • Right up my alley. Very cool indeed.

  • Thank you for the update . Running great on iPad Pro 10.5 iOS 17

  • Sounds cool with ANALOGySAW and Dinasinth!

  • Another new build, with some tweaks to character, leaning a bit more on the looper side:

    Levels & gain
    - Loops are louder and length is decoupled from volume; short loops are now as loud as long ones
    - Satellite micro-loop is audible across its whole range.
    - New Level knob (output trim in dB, next to Mix; 0 dB = unity).

    Orbit / Satellite rework
    - Both knobs' polarity reversed: knob up = shorter/faster loop.
    - Satellite is now a clean single-knob micro-looper: turn up = faster, fusing into the crystal shimmer at the top.
    - No more audio freeze, it keeps normal behavior at its max
    - Satellite pitch fix: length changes crossfade instead of varispeeding, so no more pitch-bend/clicks when you move it.

    Event Horizon (new)
    - A global "let-go" slider under Flux/Spectra: pull down to clear the loops, chord ring, reverb wash and regen to make room for a new phrase. It counterbalances Gravity. (Thanks Nick!)

    Visualization
    - Glyphs now glow with each stage's real output, you can watch a note ping loop → micro → grains → reverb.
    - Grain emissions flash gold on real cluster stars, when grains actually sound.
    - Loop-timing crystal marker on Satellite; animated star-count on Orbit to track loop lengths.

  • I love this thing.

Will def be buying when the time comes.🙂

  • Is this AUV3? Looking here, but maybe I missed it....

Yes. It’s in the first line of the post ;)

  • This looks very interesting. Happy to take it for a spin!
