  • From the developer of NanoLoop?

    No more info needed: bought!

    auv3?

    No. I don’t think it really makes sense as a plugin anyway.

    This is hot! Really nice ui design. I can see myself flying around this after I get used to it. Kind of like a tiny M8 when I don’t have my M8.

  • A tracker for $4? Like the M8? Load samples from anywhere in the Files system? Sold!

  • I really love Nanoloop - the original Gameboy cartridge was, I think, my first ever online purchase (via my sister as I didn’t have the necessary payment method) - so I have faith that this must be brilliant but tracker sequencers really don’t do it for me.

    I know trackers have many fans but this seems, to me, like a step backwards design-wise from Nanoloop which is an absolute classic.

    Someone please persuade me that I’m talking nonsense and this is going to be easy to use.

  • @waka_x don't forget to remove country reference from links. Just remove the /ro part from your link so it's like this, before posting:

    https://apps.apple.com/app/naive-tracker/id6758921004

    When a link like your /ro one is clicked in a browser, it'll open the Romanian AppStore page with local pricing - not ideal for ppl not in Romania haha

  • Does this come with many example ‘songs’ already set up?

    None, as far as I can see. Lots of samples though.

    Thnx, I was just about to come and write the same haha. The dev really should add a few projects, I reckon, and I've mentioned that to him.

    Manual, for anyone interested:

    https://www.nanoloop.com/naive/help.html

  • This is cool once you dive in with the manual in one hand and the app in the other, I wonder whether anyone with more experience with trackers would chime in in whether this one might be the most accessible on iOS.

  • I’m a big tracker fan, and for me this is the best one on iOS. I’m still learning it, but the gestures and commands are really well thought-out. I think it will be very fast to use.

    I also like that you can sample into it.

    It’s no M8, but seems just as fluid to use. Shame it doesn’t support split view on the iPad. It would be great alongside Koala

  • Naive Tracker is like a “gateway” app into the world of tracker sequencing: it’s fast and intuitive.

    Dev seems to think it does support split view. Maybe consider emailing him.

    Apart from the tracker sequencer, being able to draw sample waveforms and being completely sample based (rather than having both synth and sample options) I can’t really see what this does that Nanoloop doesn’t?

    What functionality am I not seeing?

    I think that's basically it

    One page, simplicity, live performance, I guess. And the randomization of effects too. He tried that swipe mechanic of parameters on a beta of Nanoloop for a bit on Android, it’s pretty slick way to add tracker commands…)

    Thanks for confirming @Gavinski, really appreciate it.

    As such, if anyone else reads this thread and thinks, ‘this looks great but I can’t be bothered with trackers,’ I thoroughly recommend they check out Nanoloop. It has so much depth for such a seemingly simple app. Make full songs or export perfect loops to drop into other apps.

  • Looks very cool, trackers were my first samplers and still hanker after that simple but powerful flow. Do the gestures feel fluid in operation? That old sample start offset thing was always the way I added dynamism to loops back in the day… also I finally just got my hands on a real game boy nano loop cartridge so been digging that on the old mini gb the last few weeks. Missed the original runs and held out until I got one on flea bay for roughly the retail rather than the super inflated prices they went for after production ran out…

    gestures are easy to use and smart. each parameter button has two functions. touch the parameter then the note you want to affect. flick up and down to adjust one parameter, flick side to side to set the other.

    like Nanoloop, you can tweak and stack up several effects per note, including all the nanoloop ones, but also pitch slide, delay, free running sample start, and “meta” parameter to play every 2nd, or other 2nd round, or every 4th. There is a per parameter randomize function for selected samples or all notes. etc etc. i like the old school draw sample function, which i miss on some of the other ios trackers. everything on the one page, no menu diving and live pattern switching

  • Does fine tune work, couldn’t get it to do a lot ?

  • This is one of the first trackers I’ve used that I’ve been able to make something on. Can anyone clarify the Meta parameter for chance (horizontal gesture)?

    A = 2nd of 2
    B = 1st of 2
    1 = 4th of 4
    2 = 1st of 4
    3 = 2nd of 4
    4 = 3rd of 4

    Is this supposed to be like this? And if so, is there reasoning behind it or is this how Trackers are? I’m not complaining, just curious. This app is a lot of fun.

    It’s how many times a given note plays in a given number of a pattern’s repetition, and which repetition. For example a note plays only once in four loops of a pattern’s repetition but only on the fourth time around. I think I have confused me now.

  • Think there's maybe only one or two things I didn't figure out, despite having read the manual.

    Is this working? From the manual:

    "the sample offset parameter ( F vertically) sets the playback start position in the sample. in the highest position ("="), the sample play position is freerunning. this results in random start points for notes and allows a gapless transition between overlapping notes. "=" notes placed after a trigger note can be used to change parameters of the initial note while it plays, much like "commands" in traditional trackers."

    I've tried setting to = for random start points for notes, on a few different sample types, and I don't hear the sequence playing back any differently, each time is identical. I also wasn't able to hear any difference placing = notes after a trigger note.

    Also:

    Manual says:

    pattern / song

    • / - : insert / delete song step at current position
      O / P : change pattern

    c / p : copy / paste pattern
    (paste requires 2 sec press to avoid accidental overwriting)

    Despite trying a few different things, it's unclear to me how to edit different patterns. Eg. I press the + on bottom left a few times and now I have 3 Os in the first column. Thought that now each of these is a pattern, and that if I adjust the steps in one, and then switch to a different pattern, the patterns will be different. But they're the same. Human error I'm sure, but the manual is a bit unclear here maybe.

  • @Gavinski when you add a pattern, I think the default behavior is it duplicates whatever pattern you are currently editing. So hitting “+” on “0” will give you another “0”.

    If you go to that duplicate “0” pattern and press the up arrow, it will give you an empty pattern with a new number, “1”. If you hit it twice it will be “2” and so on. Now, anything you do to pattern “x” will apply to all instances of “x”.

    Thanks for the reply, me too! Hahah.

    My main hardware is a Digitakt II, and I know the Elektron sequencer is heavily inspired by Tracker workflow so I’m just having a hard time with the Meta values not lining up with the loop numbers.

    e.g. I would expect to choose “4” for a note and have it play on the 4th loop, not the 3rd (for example). I guess it’ll just have to become baked-in muscle memory!

    Ah, OK, I'm not by my iPad now but will check that later, thnx a lot!

  • “track / sample mute is per song-step, e.g. switching tracks on and off does not require separate patterns.“

    Am I missing something or does this make it impossible/awkward to just mute any given track while in song mode. Seems like you have to select the pattern you want to mute. I’d like to just let the patterns play through and mute whichever one is playing, without selecting it, that would be a super clunky workflow imo.
