Fields by AudioThing - Birdsong to Dinosaur Sounds

Using the new field recorder app for iOS, Fields by AudioThing, to record some birds in my garden and then transforming the birdsong into dinosaur sounds using the onboard editing tools. This is a very cool app to have on your iPhone, lots of easy to use functions and always ready to record. Thanks @audiothing!

If dinosaurs had a syrinx, like birds, only much larger, then perhaps they might have sounded a bit like this.

  • Excellent demo @pbelgium … you’ve persuaded me that I need this.
Funnily enough I achieved the same bird to dinosaur conversion when I recorded a pot hole filling machine for my drone Day piece. When I listened to it slowed down I noticed these odd whoops and whines and realised I’d slowed some bird sounds down as well as the machine… this looks a lot easier though 🐥 > 🦖

  • Nice dude!

I’ve finally been able able to capture my sky rats because of fields, and have made instruments in mighty synth, and bird banks in B00gA. I really like the way you processed your sounds.

    That call @0:51 is awesome.

I’m going to throw out any unsolicited suggestion. You should try your bird samples in Mighty Synth, load up your 3 favorite samples into OSC1,2,3 tweak the semitones, attack, and effects of each OSC and see what kinda crazy instrument you can create from it. I find it highly rewarding, meaning peak dopamine response.

  • This is very cool, thanks for sharing!

  • Some excellent sample mangling there, great stuff.

  • @audiothing is this an AU apps? i’d love to be able to sit this in the effects slot of AUM or Loopy Pro, and quickly record and file away some of the sounds and songs I make.

No for now no AUv3 support. But you can easily import recordings either in Fields or using the Files app.

Sorry I made you spend money, but I'm sure Fields is totally worth it. Looking forward to hearing the sounds you make with it.

Thanks, this app is so easy to edit with and has really good quality filters and noise reduction. Here's a spectrogram of the dino sounds using Media Assistant - really clean. Will check out Mighty Synth.

Thanks again for Fields - I look forward to future developments and hope that we finally get a top notch audio editor/recorder for iOS.

Yes, there's a lot of fun to be had. Thanks for watching and commenting.

  • Funny, the first thing I tried to record were also bird calls. Didn’t occur to me to turn them into dinosaurs, silly me, but your example is very interesting. Thanks for sharing

Birdsong is very interesting and I'll be recording and experimenting more with Fields in the future. Thanks for watching.
