Interesting discussion.. i always prefered super clean compressors before those "colouring" or "warm" like poeple tend to call it ..

For me best compressor is surgically clean precise one which really does just the job work what is mentioned to be used - the copressions (eg. chaning signal dynamics)

What’s your take on Bogaudio Pressor? It’s what I use for clean compression.

can’t find this one, can youngive me link to appstore ?

edit: ah i see, it’s inside miRack

Yes. It forced me to “use my ears” so I do think it’s quite clear and transparent, but it saturates at high gain. Bidoo Bar is also nice (also MiRack) but “glues” more and has a warmer sound at a higher CPU hit.
I often go for Bogaudio Pressor even in drambo, got a rack saved with it ready to go.

will check it, in general stuff inside miRack never disappointed me ;)

The Grinch here😊. Discussions like this often comes up on the LPF and other forums and shared knowledge is great, but it can be stressful as hell for someone new trying to get a grip of all the options around. It is important to remember one thing.

If you are new, any stock plugin in your DAW will work for starters. Do not spend a fortune on plugins iOS or desktop, unless you can really hear the difference or have such a trained ear you are after a specific sound character. Practice, record over and over again and eventually you will be able to hear what different tools really add to your music. But before that, just make music. Lots of music. A skilled musician or producer can make a mix sound good with any tools. Someone new often fall into the trap of believing that just because they use the tools a pro is using, their mixes or music will sound better. It will not simple as that, practice will. Practice and experience always beat new shiny toys so to speak.

To be honest, you and us audio nerds here are the only ones who maybe care about what specific compressor/EQ/whatever plugin you are using. In a released recording or live, exactly no one listening in the audience cares about the specific tools but the whole mix, that everything fits together and that it sounds good.

Boring truth? Yup, definitely. Just my two cents🙌.

True, I’d also think there’s something to be said on apps being fun to use. Video games aren’t a direct comparison, but my Steam library probably costs as much as my iOS plugin library. Sometimes I play something, get a kick out of it, but don’t feel inclined to use it again.

Admittedly, I probably have as many games as plugins collecting dust.

In my experience a good mix is way more important than “mastering”.

    😎✌🏼

Totally agree. Get it right at the source, both sound- and level-wise then most of us just need a basic amount of plugins of choice to polish, that’s all. But by all means, go wild with plugins if you are creative as long as you like the result😁. There is nothing wrong or right, and rules in music are always open to be broken.

After I typed that comment up, looks like you agree haha. Get creative, have fun, find what sounds good to you. Better to have a plugin addiction problem on iOS than desktop where plugins are $100s vs $10s

@hghon tested, solid compressor.. simple, works as expected, no surprised, no unwanted saturation or spectrum changes 👍
