FretBud is back with AUv3 MIDI app [FREE]

Hey everyone, I've rebuilt FretBud, my second ever Bud app from 9.5 years ago!

  • Use as a scale/chord reference on the fretboard
  • Change the tuning for guitar/bass/ukelele modes
  • Adjust the fretboard size, notes, rendering modes
  • Play the notes via builtin sampler (standalone app)
  • See the incoming MIDI notes on the fretboard
  • Use as a MIDI control surface with AUv3 MIDI plugin
  • Change the key/scale/tuning with Apple Watch app
  • Change the color theme on the settings menu

FretBud is FREE and the new version is available on the app store now.
Would be great if you leave a quick rating/review 😎

The fretboard rendering code is still open sourced btw and has been updated too. It's now based on SpriteKit, supporting all the Apple ecosystem. Perfect for building or vibecoding your own guitar app

  • Very nice, slick update 🤟 I did try the beta last night and found it works very well… one thing I would love is some clever way of highlighting chords within scales, kinda like a caged map, or even more challenging, a way to see all the chords in one hang position. Tbh we’re probably better off doing the work ourselves as instrumentalists, but lazy is sometimes the way…

Nice one Cem, looks great is the tldr!

  • Hadn’t seen the old version of the app, but this one definitely looks handy!

Is it possible to set your own custom tuning?

  • sign the customtuning option is perfect

  • thr custom tuning option is perfect

  • I see the Custom Tunings section in the manual, but it doesn’t actually show up in the app as an option in Settings.

The new version is live, you can create your own tunings now!

  • The new versiom is live, you can flip the strings and the frets on the settings menu.

  • This is really nice. The ability to change the labels to show intervals, scale degrees, custom tunings and more is very useful, and the Carbon Black theme is my favorite.

  • Really useful, thanks!
