M2DX — DX7-compatible MIDI 2.0 FM synth — now on the App Store (free)

Following up on my earlier TestFlight thread: M2DX is out of beta and on the App Store now, free.

https://apps.apple.com/app/m2dx/id6763840208

What it is: a DX7-compatible 6-operator / 32-algorithm FM synth, built in Swift 6. To be precise about the engine (since this came up before): the Int32 fixed-point FM core is an independent Swift reimplementation, cross-validated sample-for-sample against the Apache-2.0 msfa reference — so it's faithful DX7-style FM, not a cycle-accurate emulation of the original OPS/EGS hardware.

MIDI 2.0: native UMP — 16-bit velocity, 32-bit CC, 32-bit pitch bend, with automatic MIDI 1.0 fallback.

Sounds: original factory presets plus import-your-own — load any DX7-format .syx bank via the Files app. (No Yamaha ROM patch data is bundled.)

Also: 6-stage FX chain (EQ → Drive → Chorus → Reverb → Stereo → Maximizer), 16-voice polyphony, on-screen keyboard, MIDI Learn.

On AUv3 (honest status): there's an AUv3 plug-in, and it's the part I most want feedback on. It's solid as a standalone app and in iPhone AUv3 hosts; iPad/Mac host registration is something I'm still sorting out (M2DX shipped iPhone-first). If you load it in Loopy Pro on iPad and it shows up — or doesn't — a quick report would genuinely help.

Thanks to everyone who tried the beta and flagged the preset/licensing questions early; the release ships original presets + BYO .syx rather than any factory ROM data. Bug reports and feature requests welcome — [email protected] or right here.

Confirming, in Loopy Pro on ipad pro m1 11" 18.7.something, crashes immediately, as in, seemingly upon add/instantiation, icon is an exclamation mark triangle, error: couldn't communicate with a helper application. Reload is identical and the only outcome.

Being midi 2.0, will it also specifically support MPE?

Many people do use MPE and don't (yet) use (Edit:) the larger set of Midi 2.0

    Thanks
