amy-cin-fishtail midi generator
Kia ora from Aotearoa New Zealand, (Kia ora means, may your future be well(in all aspects of the word well - Ora)
I am working on a midi generator - I made this - I use it personally, and I thought others might like it - and would appreciate feedback…
You can access it here https://amycin.github.io/amy-cin-fishtail/
And here is some music I made with it as a demo of what it does. I made it for harmonic intonation work with my own personal compositional tendencies - but it can work in equal temperament too…

That is using my harmonic intonation system
And here is some more plain - gentle counterpoint

The webapp allows you to generate random fugues (sort of), counterpoint, and I put in a little imitation and invention generation style too…
Some people may like it? It’s fun and I made it for pleasant music and pleasant times in pleasant spaces.
Go well,
Amy

Oh, and I forgot to say - the animation is pretty - just push the dub button and look at the visuals ! I think it’s pretty!
I’d especially love to know whether the MIDI files import cleanly into your setup, and whether any generated pieces feel useful or fun.
Opens in Cubasis OK.
Cold be really handy for inspiration
Cool!
Thanks! I hope it helps!
Send feedback if something is broke, or it needs something!
Hi @amy_cin! I only make music on iPhone and iPad, so I’m not able to load it into anything.
Just for chuckles, I hit Generate + Save MIDI and then loaded the resulting file in Koala along with one of Rob Jackson’s synths, and the midi progression sounds pretty cool!
Thanks!
Very very cool
Thanks for the nice comments. I really appreciate it. I hope the sounds rock! And are cool - or lovely - or fierce - or haunted = whatever your taste. It is a way you can choose to start if you want.
Let me know how you get on - i’d love to hear your tracks!
I use an Datapad for music now - used to use a computer - can do things like coding and supercollider on computer - but - the little Datapad - it does so much cool these days - !!! I only use an iPad for music at the moment too… Less friction - more cool.
say less. I'll post some and share!
I just updated Fishtail to be able to use rational and irrational swing, and it also - you can tune and fine tune the fundamental frequency of the song you want to generate - and - you can also sing into it - or tune it to your guitar or play a drum and it will detect fundamental - and you can tune your midi to that… it’s hard to explain - you kinda have to see…
Go well…
I’ll say less now and listen
But - I would love it if a groovebox or DAW or AUM or something would implement Fishtail - I haven’t thought of how to make it a AUv3 - but it could be a plugin - it is algorhythmic - no AI used in the generation - happens in browser… and now there is a probe so you can listen to the reference pitch and tune it if you want - and you can listen to a metronome play multiple time signatures with rational or irrational swing… you can export a wave or ticker for your track too - so you can time analogue stuff to it…
Most things in Fishtail I can do as an analogue circuit as well - and I wish all analogue and synths had Fishtail available… now I can use it - I think it is helpful - I hope others find it useful. I wish I could plug it into the Novation Groovebox, or like - GR2 or something - that would be amazing
