FunkyPipe Pro - loopback recorder (and a lot more) open Testflight

edited June 24 in App Development

Hey all,
Here's FunkyPipe Pro, a Universal loopback recorder, slicer, drag and drop file sharer (between hubs [hubs are what I call the main app] or local/network auv3 senders/receivers), live audio over LAN sampler, Ableton Link sender and sample library manager... I know, it's a lot, and trying to communicate it is part of my problem, but anyhoo - feel free to give it a spin and let me know your experience.

When FunkyPipe is recording, it will go into a low level 'arm' state in periods of silence >2 seconds and resume when audio is detected. Every time it hears a >30ms gap (i.e. you're skipping through a video, or scrolling some app that might have audio you should probably only sample if you have permission, it will segment the recording.

The end result is a recording with automatic segments and silences stripped out.
Rename it from the default auto name in the top right corner of the slicer.

You can then mark certain segments for deletion and bin them out of the file directly, or bulk export slices into their own collections (only slices between in and out marker are exported, but the original file is not affected). slices or selections exported are renamed by the 'prefix' you give them next to the export buttons. Add or remove slices by tapping the slice button.

You can then select files from your collection and drag and drop them into any drop box you see on the network page (auv3 senders/receivers or other hubs on the network) or directly to another app if you prefer. when selecting one or more files the multi-select floater (as i like to call it) pops up. If you tap the hamburger on the left (the pickup and drag icon) it will switch to 'slice' mode. Dragging in slice mode will drag out the slices from the files selected without actually exporting them from the original recording.

Enable the 'FLAC' button to record as lossless flac at ~25% file size. With FLAC enabled, collecting WAVs into folders will also convert them.

With local or network audio, if you experience high latency or crackling at low latency, hit the cog to adjust your settings. With LAN audio, even if you hear some crackles they should hopefully not be in the recording (it's not recording exactly what you hear). I find 100ms works for LAN here, and 0ms for local - inherently there's a teeny bit of latency but it should affect musical sync if you're not hearing the signal twice. You can, for example, use FP to 'send' between Koala buses or the send/passthrough buttons on the sender to build momentary custom throws for dub style performance in AUM, or send DJAY (even free) signal to AUM or Koala for direct sampling...

You can add some buttons to Control Center to start system recordings more easily (without opening FunkyPipe first). You can optionally add other CC buttons to split, new file, and pause recording indefinitely (should stay in arm without stopping the recording).

Less information than what I wrote above can be found on the website lol: https://funkypipe.funks.app - but you CAN find a link there to join my discord, please do if you have any thoughts/ideas/issues as this thread may become hard to manage. Also you can grab the free Chrome Extension linked there for PC/Mac/Linux (though it was made before system audio capture was added to iOS/macOS and slicer improved in the native app, so probably less necessary for mac users.

I've probably missed a bunch of stuff, feel free to ask. I need to make some videos about all this stuff but I believe in you to be the hardcore brave enough to just try stuff and see what happens ;)
