AE975 is an AUv3 audio effect for subtle polish, forward detail, and playable control.

AE975 keeps the dry signal as the foundation, listens to a Focus-controlled sidechain, generates source-derived harmonic texture, and blends the result back in parallel. The goal is mix-ready lift without treating brightness like a simple EQ boost.

Sound-shaping controls:

  • Focus sets the responsive region from 600 Hz to 6 kHz, with 3 kHz at center.
  • Enhance controls the parallel return depth.
  • Texture changes harmonic color and complexity.
  • Saturation adds intensity inside the enhancement generator, not as a full-band clipper.
  • Density moves from clean transient sparkle to smoother sustained glow.

    The part of this where he's doing AB comparison kind of reminds me of a video someone made on Magic Death Eye back in the day. Host was raving about what a difference it was making, I was thinking 'I don't hear shit, is he fucking with me?' 😂😂

    The rest of the "brown sound" videos by Greig Johnson are just plain classic. The guy is one of the worlds most unknown comic geniuses if you ask me.

    Yep, love these. Worth a watch for any of you who haven't seen 'em.

    The series is probably not more widely recognised because if you're not into production most of it would fly over your head. It's what these serious production tips videos sound like to everyone else 😂

    I think Christian Thompson is a creative developer. I have a couple (few) of his apps. I hesitate though because (for example) Web AU has stopped functioning as advertised.
    Was Tube AU one of his? If so, that doesn’t work any more either.

    I went in on this (iPhone, NS2) and tried it on a couple of sources - there’s an in app manual that explains everything and tells you how to get started depending on your source material which is very cool and I wish more plugins had this as opposed to sending you out of your DAW and online

    I’ve tried it on my drum buss, it’s frequency focussed which means you can choose where exactly you want to point it, I managed to add a bit of presence and thickness to the drums, although I found the saturation hitting the highs quite crunchily (this can probably be adjusted though)

    On vox there was a similar result, you need to be quite precise with your settings as it can get heavy handed, and the knobs don’t turn the usual way you’d expect (not sure how to describe this but it was slightly annoying, swipe down/up to turn left and right?)

    All in all, it deserves a deeper look but there are a LOT of source specific/utility presets - I tried “Drums - enhance cymbals” for example and it did just that over the buss, and very nicely I might add

    I know there are non-audiophiles out there who want practical, sound shaping effects without the blah blah, this one is worth a look! Maybe one of the ‘Tubers will do a deep dive 😎
