Merge drag settings in Loopy Pro feature request. Please vote if you agree.

Simple question: is there a way to set up merge drag in Loopy Pro so that when you drag a clip over another it asks you what you want to do (mix, append, replace) rather than just having it carry out one of those actions by default?

If not, could there be? @espiegel123, @Michael?

Edit: Link to feature request so you can vote on it if you agree.

There isn’t a way to do that. You could set up different gestures for the different variants.

I can’t comment on feasibility of feature requests. For feature requests, the roadmap site is the best way to make them. There is a link from the Help menu.

Thanks for responding @espiegel123, appreciate it. What a shame, though as I feared. Just added it as a suggestion to the Feedback section (I assume that’s right - no longer called roadmap?). Cheers.

It's always a good idea to add a link to your request here so that others of like mind can upvote.

And yes, this is the former "roadmap" site.

  • It's not terribly difficult to add different gestures.

The URL and page name once there are called Feedback ... the Help menu item says Road Map

True, but I’d still argue that it’s unnecessarily complicated to have to do that in the first place - Loopy Pro’s Achilles heel is it’s learning curve and menu diving, why not give a user friendly option for beginners?

I think the default behavior should be to have a pop up letting you choose (as in Koala) but with the option to set it up to do one thing specifically in those bespoke situations which require it such as perhaps live performances.

Out of interest, how would you suggest using gestures? I mean, sliding one clip into another is in itself a gesture so what would you do? Is it possible to specify a two finger slide and a three finger slide?

Yeah, it’s confusing and could do with some continuity - pick Feedback or Roadmap for both I’d suggest @Michael.

Ah, you’ve done it for me, thanks @espiegel123. Edit: thanks @wim, got my posts mixed up and should have credited you instead!

I didn't say that to minimize your request, but to encourage you that it may not be too hard to work around if you need to.

Out of interest, how would you suggest using gestures? I mean, sliding one clip into another is in itself a gesture so what would you do? Is it possible to specify a two finger slide and a three finger slide?

Good question. I haven't given it much thought. Off the top of my head, I think I'd add gestures with the target "next tapped clip". Then, you would swipe or whatever, and the clips would start "bouncing", and the next clip you tap would be the target for the move/merge.

  • Another approach might be to have two specific clips that you work with and set up buttons for the different move/merge actions specifically targeting those clips.

Or, have more clips in some predictable positional order. For instance two columns, with the master clips in the first column and the other column being the builder clips. Then have gestures on the builder row that have the target previous clip.

    Or, use colors...

Or, use Selected Clip. Select the master (in my template I use long-press to set the selected clip). Add gestures for the various move/merge options, with the target Selected Clip.

I can think of others ...

All are more work to set up than your suggestion, which I think is a good one.

Thanks for the many examples @wim, all very useful in my ongoing Loopy Pro education, cheers.

By the way, just realized that I credited @espiegel123 earlier for posting the link to my feature request for votes when it was actually you who did so - apologies and thank you very much, really appreciate it.
