Thanks for the update update 👍

  • Cool! I haven't checked, but do we have a microtonal keyboard yet, to go with all these microtonal scales?

I have looked over and I can’t find any microtonal keyboard?

Can someone explain to me what microtonal means? If i think of an octave divided into quarter tone increments for a total of 24 evenly spaced tones, am i right?

Pretty much any scales whose notes aren’t derived from the equal-tempered scale.

Essentially, microtonality means anything that doesn’t correspond to the octave divided in 12 semitones which we consider as standard in western music.

It sounds “weird” or “off” nowadays because we are so used to the modern music theory that has been taught as standard during the last century or so, but basically each civilization or ethnic group developed its unique musical traditions and they don’t necessarily align with the frequencies that we standardized as reference for our musical notes.

Just listen to Angine de Poitrine to get an idea or to some King Gizzard and the lizard wizard

  • One question, does anyone actually use microtonal tunings in there projects?

No, but I will. Just as soon I've tried tempo change and non-4/4 time signature... probably never then :D

I do like the idea though.

I for one will be interested in hearing your results, I would imagine a 1/4 tone would grate on the ear, my Roland JX1 keyboard has 1/4 tones and it really do sound right - unless I had too much to drink then it would sound fine 😂

    Here’s a good explainer :

I also recomend the music and socials of Maddie Ashman. She’s a genius and her songs are brain candy.
