FinalFX by Rob Jackson (Released)
https://apps.apple.com/app/id6782601896
FinalFX (“final effects”) is an AUv3 effects plugin that can run standalone, or in any AUv3 compatible host such as Logic Pro, GarageBand or AUM. FinalFX currently runs on iOS (iPad & iPhone) and macOS (Intel & Silicon) and is available as a Universal Purchase from the Apple App Store.
If you’re planning on using FinalFX on Mac / desktop, please ensure that your favourite DAW / host supports AUv3 (not just AU).
Overview
FinalFX is a collection of audio processors useful for mixing and mastering, often referred to as a “channel strip”. Typically you’d add FinalFX literally as your final effects on a stereo master or mix bus channel.
FinalFX has been specifically designed to introduce no additional latency in the audio processing chain, and as the CPU load has also been minimised, it can be used in live sound applications.
FinalFX comprises three main modules:
EQ is a general purpose six band equaliser that can also process in mid / side mode. The frequencies and resonances for each band are fixed, so this EQ is more about subtle, overall tone-shaping, than surgical precision. For example, reducing bass or adding presence. The EQ’d signal can also be mixed with the original dry signal.
MID / SIDE focusses on the stereo image with individual gain controls for the middle and sides content of stereo audio, as well as an overall width control which can reduce a stereo signal down to mono.
COMPRESSOR / LIMITER adjusts final dynamics and loudness and comprises two compressors in series with variable threshold and ratios. The first compressor stage also has a mix control. This section also includes a variable soft / hard clipper stage and overall output volume control.

Another great release from @Rob_Jackson_Music . This guy is a machine! Well done, mate. 👏
Many thanks @jwmmakerofmusic - much appreciated.
Actually used it on Saturday for some FOH live sound and found the mid / side EQ really handy, plus a bit of peace of mind having some very subtle comp + limiting. It's also nice when you get to play with your own toys
It's $3.99 btw, Universal Purchase.
Yeah, it's hard to fathom how such top-quality plugins are being offered at affordable prices.
But I'm glad you do offer them at those prices. Cheers mate.
I’ve recently started watching some vids and edumacating myself on mixing and mastering concepts. This strikes me as a good intro app for these processes as fabfilter plugins frighten me with their complexity lol. Would you say this app is a good step in the mixing direction for a newbie @Rob_Jackson_Music ? (By no means saying this is a “simple” app btw. I just find your stuff to be very approachable from the get go 👍)
@Squishy - yep, that's totally one area I was trying to cover - mastering lite, if you will. But I was also cautious in not wanting to push the mastering angle too much, as there's a lot of... well, y'know... opinions on that topic.
I like to think it also has applications where you might want a "mastered" type sound live - say if you're running drum machine and a bunch synth tracks in AUM. Put FinalFX on your final output track and you can add a bit of "oomph" with no additional latency.
There are a few mastering type presets as jumping off points.
And full disclaimer, it's essentially SimplEQ + LevlLr2 plus a bunch of extras, like EQ mix, mid / side, and variable (instead of on / off) clipping. I was using those two in tandem a lot and thought an all-in-one solution might be handy.

Right on, thanks for the thoughts. Keep making awesome stuff 🤘
Bought. Awesome. I see on your user guide you invite a few suggestions so I have one: could you put your noise gate in the beginning of this? Sometimes some of us might throw together a live set up and it’s got some hiss or rumble….
Thanks @NoiseHorse - much appreciated.
Interesting suggestion. I'd never thought of adding a noise gate "last" in the chain, as my rule of thumb is to add it "as soon as possible".
Hate to plug another plugin, but I use ARGate for noise reduction duties and I have it on all my instrument / line input channels.
That said, I'll add it to the suggestion list - thanks
This definitely seems for me. I tend to over do things in mastering, and I’ve been looking for a way to ween myself out of using LP4 iPad AI mastering assistant.
Yeah, maybe I'm stuck in my thinking, but I don't think I'd ever use a noise gate at the end of the chain. By the time noise gets to the master, it's been amplified and mugged so much that you have to set it to extremes. Plus it affects everything rather than just the source of the noise.
it’s up to you how creatively you use the effect.. even through it’s primary for master chain, you can use it completely differently. For example after huge distortion, and noise gate can be very handy in that situation
Using effects in non-standard chains is where greatest musical ideas are created
Sure, but I'm talking about specifically in the context of adding to something like this.
well, for live setup when there is silence between tracks if you set is not continuous but you need to load new trac, and especially if you have also some HW synths in setup which can introduce noise into mix, I can see noise gate on master chain as very handy
I'd rather track down the source of the noise and fix it there. Why f*ck around gating an entire mix? You know the gate acts on everything, not just the culprit, right?
But whatever. 🤷🏼♂️
Remind me not to contract you to master my next hit. 😉
I definitely mean add the gate FIRST before all the other stuff. Not last. I’m sorry I know I could kill the noise on my Mix first, but I was gonna use this on instruments too…
Funnily enough, I have hardware / analog inputs into multiple AUM channels via an audio interface in my live setup.
The very first thing on each of those channels is a noise gate. Then... I add gain, fx, etc., etc., on each channel as needed.
Then it all goes through FinalFX (via a mix bus) then out to FOH. Dare I say, that's a pretty traditional approach.
In my case, I flip-flopped on whether to add a de-esser or other typical resonant frequency filters, which was the only kind of "last effects" noise reduction that were up for consideration.
But again, I figured you generally need a de-esser on a vocal channel, and resonant frequency issues typically only occur with mic'd up acoustic instruments, so you'd want to address those at source.
PS. Just to add a bit of context, I really liked Brainworkx bx_masterdesk on desktop and it was my go-to mastering doo-dah for a good number of years. I wanted to make something similar, in terms of simplicity (but not a clone / rip-off) for my iOS music making pals.
And me. I use it all the time, of course!
Shut up, moron.
Just kidding, of course, @1ktone.
Same, pretty much, for the other posts you've apparently taken more seriously than I meant them.
I'll lay off the snarky "humor". Thanks for calling me out on it.
IMO, insults, even if intended sarcastically, aren’t how we should be communicating here.
Sorry, it was a joke. I thought the ridiculousness of it would be obvious that I didn't mean it at all. I misjudged badly.
I apologize and will not make the mistake of making such a joke again in the future.

It was very obvious to me when I read it that it was a joke, fwiw
1ktone called wim grumpy so in jest he wrote something really grumpy.
On the internet humor gets lost but I think this was pretty obvious. Maybe not a good joke in hindsight but still a joke.
Little PSA in the community spirit.

To the de-esser point, I did consider it, but felt is wasn't a common enough requirement to include in FinalFX. Plus I wanted to keep the functionality / UI simple etc.
I also think de-essers are now being displaced by a new generation of dynamic resonance plugins like the infamous Soothe - I think that was the first one to get everyone's attention on desktop. Actually, has anyone done a "Soothe" for iOS?
Not as far as I know, FF Pro-Q 4 can do some dynamic spectral EQ:in to reduce harshness.
I'm kinda surprised @BabyAudio @tristan hans't ported Smooth Operator Pro to iOS/iPadOS as it's more or less an 'open goal' without anything to really compete with at the moment
@Samu yeah, I think Soothe (and similar) is definitely one of those plugins that falls into the category where you go from "Do I really need this?" to "I can't live without it!"
And, I've just found out they've done a "Live" version of Soothe so you can run it in realtime. For live applications, that's super cool.
